In these various fields or human activity, great mcn have arisen who have huitt empires encompassing and unifying the diverse peoples of the earth. DEDICATION ' Here was a momentous event in history. for the Bill of Rights represented the result of a struggle of free souls of all ages and all lands; it avowed protection of individuality and personal freedom: it was conducive to the development 0F long suppressed personalities and it established untmmmcled enterprise, For America and for the world. it is a bufwark of freedom. In this year or l939. thoughts and aspirations are still directed loward building a hetler, more perfect world of the Future. On our Atlaniic and Pacific coasts, two great fairs. symbolic of modern progress. are dedicaled lo the erection of lhe VVOrId of Tomorrowh The New York VVorIdS Fair is built upon this theme: to promote a happier way olv American living through a recognition oi, the interdependence of man and the building 0 u better world of tomorrow with lhe tools of today. Grover Whalen. president of the Fair Corporation. expressed that purpose in these words: We must improve human relations. VVc must roster peace in the worIcI by encouraging amicahle contacts. XVe must huihl for a hotter world of tomorrow by educating the average citizen not only in the use of the best material accessories of today, but in those lyorward-Eoolcing principles which have been envisioned by the genius of the American nation. On the Pacific coast, on an island dredged from the sea, the Golden Gate Exposition, an islandicity OI rare and majestic heauly. rises as the symbol of peace and understanding which must eventually ameliorate humanity and civilization.
