OUR EW PRINCIPAL Although greatly saddened hy the loss of Mr. Rettig, all of us at Woodward were grateful and appreciative of the fact that someone as capable and experienced as Mr. Virgil Sloan was prepared to maintain the high standards and enthusiastic spirit of Calvin M. Wood- ward High School. Mr. Sloan came to Woodward in the fall of 194-7 and taught World History and Ameri- can History. As his experience increased, Mr. Sloan excelled and attained the positions of dean of boys and assistant principal of administration. This latter posi- tion, in addition to the fact that he holds a Bachelor of Arts and a lVlaster's degree from Defiance College and Ohio State University, has qualified and enabled Mr. Sloan to acquire his present job as principal of Woodward High School. MR. SLOAN'S MESSAGE Woodward High is a school of great traditions. Seniors, you have done much to add to these traditions. May l wish you the greatest success in your life endeavors. We hope you will call on us if we can be of help to you. To the rest of you at Woodward, I hope that you will resolve anew to make the most of the opportunities afforded you to improve yourselves to the limits of your abilities.
