J Band l233 Chorus 235 Glee Club 235 ' 0 S 0 - a l, VV - ' e W. f X I, X X 47 M l A 4 'gl L SENIOR CLASS HISTORY A decade and three years ago our parents brought to the kindergarten class sixteen members of the Woodward graduating class of 1959 The sixteen students were under the instruction of Mrs Wilma Axmear The old timers are the following John Myers, Sally Davlsson, Laura Cox, MaDonna Greene, Arthur Dean G1lbert, Joseph Martincic, David Bice, Jolene Frantum, Bernadine Jones, Samuel Starnes, Susan Davisson, Larry Hoskinson, Martha Beck, Janet Peoples, Henry Calonkey, and Dea Bodansky Fifteen of us graduated from Kindergarten into first grade We lost Laura Cox after our kindergarten year During th1s year several drastic changes took place We learned our addition and subtraction tables and the alphabet Karen Propp left us this year Miss Coloma Shannon was our teacher By second grade we had been reduced by one more We were down to four teen MaDonna Greene moved to Waukee Mrs Lelah Krumm guided us through arithmetic and spelling In third grade we were really beginning to feel big in a small sort of way Th1s year we gained three new members of our class They were Barbara Kinney, Rex Wilcox and Dolores Wheeler Barbara Kinney d1dn't stay long, she left Donald Lacky and Bobby Riseling decided to move away also Our teach er was Mrs Gray In fourth grade we were beginning to take an interest in sports gained five new m mbers this year Karen Shepard, Charlene Moore, Craig Bas kett, Linda Steele, and John Thornburg Three of our classmates decided to leave us They were Larry Root, Charlene Moore, and Linda Steele Miss Van Steenbergen was our teacher Fifth grade is when our class started to grow We had eight new members Larry Strelght, Eddie Walker, Eddie L1ncoln, Clyde Edmonds, David Sparkman, Barbara Turner, MaDonna Greene, and Carolyn Schr1efer John Wadsworth decided he would move on Our teacher for th1s year was Mrs Esther Kuefner In the sixth grade we were preparing for junior high Th1s year Suzanne Bullen, Arlene Rothfus, Fred Bristle, and Jerry Wisecup came to our class this year All of us made it to junior h1gh We surely were excited, we were get ting closer and closer to high school Christ1ne Homesley, Ruth Wolfe, and Larry Root, who had decided he would l1ke to come back, were the new members of the class Jerry Wisecnp and John Thornburg left us Mr LaBlanc and Mrs Bilney were our teachers. Elghth grade was a b1g,big year, for the next year we would be freshmen We really had to work hard to make the big step Karen Propp decided to come back to good old Woodward and see how everyone was doing Barbara Weyer, Dolores Welby and Tom Gray came in after school had started Tom Gray, Dolores Welby and Ruth Wolfe left us th1s same year Mrs Bilney was begin n1ng to know us pretty well, for she and Mrs Felter were our teachers are freshmen now What a year! The upper classmen really had scared Gary Bristle, Ilmar Upenieks and Sandy Fagen came to join our nice freshman class Eddle Lincoln, Davld Vernon,and Carolyn Schriefer moved away One of our classmates, Deanna Lincoln, met with a tragedy on December 2,1955 of our freshman year In our sophomore year we looked forward to initiating the freshmen Jim Day decided to move away Laura Cox and Myrna Owen came and left In our Junior year we always looked forward to our class rings and the Prom We never d1d work as hard as we d1d on the Prom Clyde Edmonds, Su zanne Bullen,David Sparkman, Dolores Wheeler, Barbara Weyer, Christine Homes ley, Janet Van Lew all left us this year We are getting smaller Larry Root dec1ded to j01D the Navy Walter left us to attend another school Donnice Clymer came to us this year . We Nancy Baker decided to go to California. SENIOR PROPHECY It is now 1980 in the little town of Woodward There is a great sensa tional tent show coming next week, and everyone 1S buzzing with excitement- signs everywhere add to the frenzy This great tent show which is touring the country is owned and operated by none other than Ma and Pa Bice This name Bice is faintly recalled in the minds of the citizens of Woodward, but there 13 only one man who can solve the mystery This is the honorable and wise Sassy Stuhr, who faithfully runs the lovelorn column in the Woodward Enterprise, edited by Fred Heerema When Sassy Stuhr began unraveling the unknown, he recalled a Seniorfnass of 1959 that he had battled with as sponsor He said as he recalls' 'Oh, I know The mysterious Bice who owns this tent show is none other than David, and his flaming red headed wife, who has destroyed his lovely physique with hot chocolate and thick sardine sandwiches, is the former Bar bara Turner The star of the Bice show is the alto soloist, MaDonna Greene, who sings all the sizzling symphonies written by the famous conductor and composer, Samuel Starnes ' Sassy Stuhr has revealed so many interesting facts that he is called on to recall the accomplishments of the rest of the class 'Henry Calonkey, who had the best interest of the people at heart, has become a dignified, gray haired person who has written on his door 'Private, H Calonkey Attorney at Law ' But once you enter that decorative door, you will find that Bernadine Jones is sitting on the boss's knee taking dictation 'Arlene Rothfus, the rodeo star, recently won the barrel race at Santa Fe, New Mexico She was presented a silver saddle by Larry Hoskinson, who is mayor of the town Larry has been the mayor for the last sixteen years solemn vows will be read by Rev Ilmar Upenieks, who did some fast reforming 'Sandra Fagen is now teaching at Woodward High School, which is not too far from the Fred Frantum residence Harold Frantum and Sandy have been en gaged for the past twenty years and look forward to getting married within the next ten 'When I last saw Ed Walker, he was leaning against the wall in frontof the Northwestern Cigar Store He had been diligently looking for a job, and sincerely hoping he'd never find one 'I discovered that Joe Martincic, an old country doctor, is head physi cian at Alcatraz, where he will be steadily employed for the next ten years 'In the Dallas County Hospital at Perry, Martha Coleman is now superin tendent of the hospital She abandoned a top position at the Dog and Cat Hospital in Des Moines to fill this job 'Jolene Frantum is celebrating a date with her 500th boyfriend Sheex pects her record to hit the 1000 mark by the end of next year After that she is going to tour Alaska in a series of lectures, her subject 'How To Get our Man ' 'The last I saw Fred Bristle, he was on the train bound for Yuma,1n pur suit of a red head, having tired of blondes and brunettes At his age you'd think he'd learn! 'I understand that the former Janet Peoples is happily married and liv ing on a farm near Woodward, known for many years as Pond's Acres Several little blonde children play in the yard, waiting for the daddy,a fonmer W H S student, also, to come home 'The Reverend Gary Bristle is conducting revival meetings under the big tent in Central Park in New York City He has been preparing a bill to sub mit to Congress making it illegal to match pennies. There are rumors that a marriage between these two will soon take place. The 'Ed Lincoln is still going to Texas State Teachers College for Women. He is working on his sixth P.H.D., and we hope he will receive it soon. 'Arthur Dean Gilbert, whose stage name is B. Buttonbuster, is currently singing in the starring role at the exclusive Moffett Opry House. The present production is known as the ggggy Widower.
