SENl0ll CLASS HlSTORY D1aries hold many wonderful memories As you open the cover of th1s dlary, the pages w1l1 unfold the many adventures, trials, and trlbula t1ons of the class of 1958 PREFACE This dlary is to tell about our educatlon which began in September of l9u5 On that fateful morning in September, seven of the new k1nder garten students were to be members of the Woodward graduating class of 58 Those seven, under the lnstruction of Mrs Wilma Axmear, were Beverly McMorris, Bobby Sheppard, Eugene Grimes, Ronnle Hass, Marllyn Newland Geraldlne Jones, and Charles Menz We did not start in a brand new bui dlng, but we were content with our teacher and our work materl als and came through the year quite successfully Dear Diary Our flrst page 13 of course, concerned w1th first grade This year ROHHIB Hass left us, but Miss Cloma Shannon was glad to welcome Larry R0b1HSOH from St Paul,M1nnesota, and Jim Dean from Mad r1d We had an enjoyable year and all pulled through with only a few bumps, bruises, and scratches from swings, teeter totters, and fist fights Dear D1ary To the second page of our diary we add two more per sons They are Mickey Meneough and Sharon Wolter, both from Des Moines We engoyed taking walks in the fall picking up pretty leaves with Mrs Krumm We used our ingenious minds to put our leaves to good use as dec orations in our room Dear Diary At the beginning of our th1rd page we notice that Ron nie has come back to stay His intelligence added Just the right touch b1t of excitement in our room To f1nish up this page, Dean Burkhart came to goin us from country school He found our group very intelli gent and easy to get along with Dear Diary Miss Van Steenbergen was glad to welcome us 1nto her fourth grade room We had no new faces added to our group th1s year We were kept very busy givlng our artlstic touch to presents for ourparenta One of our projects was sprinkling cans for our mothers They were very pretty Dear Diary No one Joined us 1n the f1fth grade either, so we were well acquainted w1th everyone when the school year began During our flfth year, we made our acting debut with Mrs Kuefner as our director Mrs Hass was so proud of her llttle boy as he came on the stage portray ing a peppermlnt stick The other mothers were just as proud of their sons and daughters as they so magnificently played their parts Dear Diary To the sixth grade we added several persons They are Harold Frantum from Gardner,Doreen Morse from Clarlon, Marty Martin from Beulah, Olga Sjeklocha from Yugoslavla, Bonnie Walker and Barbara Wilson both from Madrid The only person we lost was Sharon Wolter Dear Dlary Mr LaBlanc helped us along in seventh grade We ed little animals made of plaster of Par1s We had animals of all and deslgns Betty Stoneburner decided to come from the country big city to Join us Charles left us in the middle of the year cided to cause mischief elsewhere During that year, whenever you paint colors to the He de opened your desk you found a comic book Our teacher was very good about hand ing out presents Dear Diary In our eighth year Sharon came back from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dorothy Bolt came from Lexington, Illinois, and Kay Martin came from Norwood to J01n our group We were so proud that there were n 'n - e 1 g : I . . , . to our group. so many in our group who maintained h1gh enough averages to receive an honor pin at our eighth grade graduation Dear Diary Our ninth year found several more names added to our list Larry Mlller from Gardner, Joe Miller from Waukee, Charles Menz came back to stay w1th us, and Byer Morrison from Churdan Our first mornlng as freshmen found us creeplng up the stalrs to the high school We entered very meekly, but by the time the day was finished, we had bravely found our place Dear D1ary Our sophomore year found us l1ttle more confident were flnally upper classmen only to one class, but that was a mlnor de tail In the mlddle of the year added one person to our group She was Rosella Spracher from Dexter Our class was steadlly increasing This was the f1rst year we were able to attend the Prom Most of us had our part in servlng at the Banquet and Prom Dear Diary Our eleventh page takes us to our eleventh year Our main progect of the year was, of course, our Prom We worked dlligently on this project standing 1n the cold at football games,sell1ng our can was a lot easier on us as we could work inside instead of outside The music contest was held at our school during this year To earn more money we also worked all day selling maidrites, pop, and such to the partic1pants and viewers of the various musical activities Another money making progect was our car wash We washed cars from nine until five on Saturday Fred Burkhart from Perry, and Bob Mltchell from Grand Junction,came to finish out our junior year Finally came our class play We had our doubts but, after our goofs on Thursday, our presentatlons in the evening went well Then came the time to start decorating the gym and church basement The theme we chose for our Prom was 'Garden of Friendship W with our mothers cooking and the sophomores serving, we got through the banquet quite successfully The main attraction of the decoratlons of our gym was a flowing fountain 1n the west end of the gym Morrie Powers and hls Bel Aires provided the music for dancing Dear Diary In September of 1957 we finally made it we were full fledged seniors We added three more to our class Nancy Tietjenand Jerry Leonard from Perry, and Floyd Moore from Minburn, thus completing our class and giving us a grand total of thirty members Some of the things that kept us busy our senior year are Skip Day to Chicago, and Court Day the day after our return With our experience from our junior class play, it wasn't quite as difficult to get things rolling on 'Room Service ' Our Banquet and Prom was held on May 2 It was nice to have no wor ries about crepe paper, balloons, and confetti, and just go and have all those things provided for you We would like to thank the juniors for the nice Prom they had for us It will be long remembered Finally came our long awaited graduation week Baccalaureate was held in the Methodist Church on Sunday, May 25 On the follow1ng Wednes day came our Commencement The afternoon of the 28th, since we had no school, we worked in the gym The results of our labor proved to be well worth while That evening, in front of our relatives and friends, we flnally received our diplomas, which was the goal for which we had been striving for thirteen years As we close the cover on our diary, we realize that we will also be closing the cover to our school days. There has been lots of fun, joy, laughter, and sorrow mixed into these years, but they have proved to be the most carefree years of our lives. Now we shall start a new diary consisting of our future years and, for some of us, helping our own children through school as our parents and friends have helped us. I ' : ' . We .
