Above: Partners in Crime! Across: Dana's grown since Jr. High!!! After a terrific summer, we were thrilled to see the familiar faces when August 23 rolled around. How everyone changed over the summer! We were growing up and we were scared but eager. We worried about our classes, made decisions, and worried some more. Finally, the final die was cast, and we were in a mold again. We were with our teachers and our friends, and we were happy because we were “Together Again.” We were together again to have fun (sometimes when we shouldn’t), to work hard (on our studies of course, as we diligently pursued the broadening of our mental horizons), and to grow up (as painful as that very natural process can be sometimes). We weren’t always perfect, of course, but we appreciated the fact that we shared our lack of perfection with so many others. | 2 Compliments of IRWIN CHEVROLET — OLDS — CADILLAC Above: Sean still needs a bib KEEP TRASH Across: Doug practices his French smile. Compliments of STOCK EXCHANGE BANK Morning . . . Just a Little More Shut Eye Above: The pains of morning hair static. Across: Another bright, sunshiny day!! Frankly, we weren’t always thrilled to meet the morning sunlight each day. We loved being with our friends; but sometimes, we craved just a little bit more shut-eye than our busy schedules would permit. Regardless of how difficult it was to get up, take a shower, and grab a bite of breakfast, we didn’t object when we got to the halls of WHS and joined our friends for our morning’s dragging the halls. We sometimes thought about how horrible it would be to be in the full-time job market when morning would have to be morning . . . ready or not. Compliments of NORTHWEST FEDERAL SAVINGS LOAN ASSOCIATION 4 Compliments of MCDONALD'S RESTAURANT 5 Weekend Save Time for Gs Above: Happy Daze are here again! Across: Have a Coke and a smile!! Most of our time always belonged to someone else — to our families, WHS, our jobs, but our weekends belonged to us. At least we tried to arrange a little bit of time to do something we didn’t have to. Although we couldn’t ignore our respon- sibilities on weekends, sometimes it felt good to do our own things and in our own ways. Some weekends we could sneak in a few cherished moments for that special someone in our lives. Thank goodness we could escape to our weekends!! 6 Compliments of SONIC DRIVE-IN The Lone Sophomore. KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN Above: Goodbyes are hard; it was only a one-day band trip. Below: Jennifer poses for a picture. DEVINE’S STATIONERY AND HALLMARK Special Times We Chose Different Ways Above: Shary rocks out!! Across: Stealing from a Senior?! 8 WOODWARD BOWLING CENTER SHORT’S WESTERN WEAR Special times for us came in different ways. Sometimes we were energetic, and we wanted action. Sometimes we were tired and we chose to sleep. Sometimes we were mischievous, and we looked for trouble. Sometimes we were nostalgic and we sought peace. Regardless of our moods, we made our fun. Sometimes our fun was planned, but often it was spontaneous. Sometimes the unplanned fun was the best of all. Actually, our needs were simple; therefore, just being together meant some of the best “Special Times.’’ Reuel rocks on 50's day, while Chris takes a break. Above: Some sailors are so cool. With our senior year fast approaching and our innocent sophomore year behind, many of us started to look into the future. Probably the most important step toward seniority was picking out “special ' class rings. Many college entrance exams like. ACT, SAT. and PSAT had to be taken, if we were interested in furthering our education after High School. Hard work and dedication helped us to prepare for that final and most impor tant year. They also bought a new cordless microphone for the auditorium. Stu-Co tried something new this year — an organization called SADD (Students Against Drunk Drivers). Though the staff members had a lot more fun than most classes, the hours they put in were usually a lot longer. The end product and feeling that each person had their own share in it made the hard times worth it. Working hard. Kammy? 51 Chorus Always on the Go “That Harmonious Sound” Cinder the new leadership of Mrs. Audrey Foutch, two chorus groups were formed: Mixed Chorus and Jazz Choir. Their harmonious sounds sent a chill through the senses that caused one to become part of the music. This year the chorus stood out. They took control of the time they had to practice to perfect their shows. Many hours were spent to attain the high pitch and smooth blending sound. This constant strive for perfection was worth the effort because these voices will always be remembered. Miss Congeniality was given to Ruth Bleckley. Third Runner-Up was Angie Myers, Second Runner-Up was Toni House, and First Runner-Up was Angie Ward. Our Miss Woodward for 1984-85 was Emily Bowman. Although every girl shined brightly in the spotlight, the truest light was each individual girl and her escort. 65 The Main Event Homecoming 1984-85 was a memorable event for four Senior girls: Toni House, Teri Heacock, Barbara Orr, and JoLyn Cheap. The Royal Boomer Robe and Crown were given by Todd Gentry. The Crown bearer was Ryan Dick, and the flower girl was Megan Meyer. It was a “night to remember.” The Boomers put up a fight against the Altus Bulldogs, and even though the Boomers were defeated, the night still held its magic. CUNNINGHAM 67 Glitter and Gold Basketball Homecoming 1984-85 meant different things to different people. To some, it meant winning another ballgame. To others, it meant memories that would last a lifetime. But to three girls it was a very precious moment. Angie Myers was crowned Basketball Homecoming Queen by Jeff McCormick. The flower girl was Carly Washmon and the crown bearer was Dustin Griffith. Angie’s attendants were Christi Hill and Barbara Orr who added to the glitter and gold. The Royal Basketball Court. Teachers were shuffled back and forth; students were bussed from school to school. Special lunch hours, assemblies, and announcements were made throughout the year. These changes set into motion events that would carry on for a long time. 145 Help Making Ends Meet SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE May I extend best wishes — now and in the years to come — to this yearbook staff and the fine student body of 1984-85. This was a year of demands for educational reform and a greater degree of excellence. The country was reeling from an unprecedented number of studies on education — all pointing different directions reform should take. There was an ‘‘Economic Slump” and a realization that quality education fuels the economy as well as the American dream. Thus a demand for new and better competency tests for both teachers and students. We were a good school looking for ways to become better. There was a loud voice urging computer literacy for everyone and hi-tech curriculums. A smaller voice was saying we needed to learn the lessons of history and how to live with each other. This was also the year part of the Junior High School burned, requiring the ninth grade to be moved to the High School. The spirit of generosity and cooperation among students during this difficult time demonstrated clearly that our pride and faith in the student body of 1984-85 was fully justified. Thank you, James T. Castleberry Superintendent Ms. Jeane Ratliff. Admin. Assistant Dr. John P. Kessinger, Asst. Superintendent Ms. Shellie Rowley. Clerk Ms. Carol Vloedman. Treasurer 148 Over and throughout all the school year, without our even knowing it in a direct way, these men and women have affected our school lives dramatically. They have made several crucial decisions throughout the year, and every School Board Member’s hopes are to one day see the students of Woodward High School living a happy and successful life. We would like to thank the members of the School Board for the educational opportunities they have provided and the fact that they had the welfare of the community’s children at heart.
