Text from Pages 1 - 132 of the 1963 volume:

Black and Gold BLACK AND GOLD Come join in song together; Shout with might and main; Our beloved Woodward High School, Sounds her praise again. Here’s to her whose name we’ll ever; Cherish in our song; Honor, love and true devotion. All to her belong. Seniors, Juniors and Sophomores, Ail together we; Sound the chorus loud and glorious. All devotedly. Honor to the “Black and Gold’’; Banner that we love; It will lead us in the conflict. And our triumph prove. Chorus Woodward High School, ever my school; Truest, fairest, best; pride of Western Oklahoma, Rah! for W. H. S. 1963 Boomer Woodward High School Woodward, Oklahoma Dedication To those who have stood behind us. Opportunity to learn. Observing our faults and helping to correct them. Using your time, skill, and patience for our betterment. Receiving little in return Putting in your time and patience for our betterment Ability to understand us. Ready to sympathize and laugh with us. Endless efforts to help us. Never letting us down when we need you. Through your guidance we have achieved higher ideals. Supplying us with courage and high hopes for the future. If you find a mistake in this annual it was put there on purpose. We try to publish something for everyone, and some people seem to look only for mistakes. Elaine Elkins, Editor oodward Board ol Education MR. DALE HUGHEY, Superintendent The 1963 edition of our yearbook will be cherished by you more and more as the years goby. Memories of your school years are recorded in this book. Your schooldays are important to you in preparation for life responsibilities. Congratulations to the yearbook staff for assuming the responsibilities of preparing this record of the school year, 1962-1963. Sincerelu yours Dale A. Hughey1 Superintendent MR. MELVIN NIX, President MR. FRANKLIN STECHER, Vice Pres. MR. DOLYE ALEXANDER, Member MR. LEO BONIFIELD, Mem. MR. BOB KNEEBONE, Mem. MR. DAN PRICE, Treas. MR. BOB SMITH, Clerk School day memories are something you will cherish all your life, and this annual is one of the ways those memories can be kept alive. There are other ways which are perhaps more important and one of these would be to leave the finest school record of which you are capable. This type of memory will pay dividends as long as you live. The preparation of young people for useful and happy lives in our democracy is a great challenge to both teachers and parents. To a large degree, the survival of that democracy depends on how well we carry out our responsibilities. Students also have a greater responsibility. Many observers feel that more students should select their field of interest while in High School. This would tend to give them a running start toward meeting the complex, unforeseen demands of the future world of work. J. D. Once we too had been freshmen and as our graduation day drew near we looked back to those days and remembered all that had been. We could see, in retrospect, that for the most part we had grown more mature in our thinking and hoped we were prepared to go out to face the world, away from the shelter of school and family. Most of us regretted we had taken advantage of only a few of the opportunities which had been offered us and wished we might somehow still be given another chance. Aside from any regrets we may have had we did know that the days we had spent in high school would become a string of memory pearls which we would from time to time tenderly lift from our own individual memory boxes and offer a silent prayer of thanks that life had given them to us. We would remember the romances, the ideals, and ambitions of our classmates along with the highlighting events of those years. Exciting Homecoming, the elections, the balls, the sports, the pep rallies, the Junior-Senior Banquet, and Prom, Senior Class Day, Baccalaureate and Commencement. Our memories are made of this. Boomers The past Junior High School football season has been a rewarding season for both players and coaches. From the coaches' standpoint we were well pleased with the amount of progress many of the boys displayed before the season was over. The team did not have a big winning football season but many players now realize what it will take to be a winning football team in high school. We only hope that some of the things the boys have learned this year will help them down the road to becoming the Woodward Boomers.
