To the juniors, we leave our ability to win every contest that we enter. To the sophomores, our ever-loving underclassmen, whose girls try to take away all our senior boys, we bequeath all translations and test papers needed by seniors. To the teachers, our deepest sympathy for the sorrow they feel at our leaving and for the disgust they feel when they compare us with the next classes. To the janitors, we leave a thermometer. They seem to have spent their younger lives in the Arctic, or else their grandmothers were Eskimos. Pauline Anthem....My sharpness to anyone with a point on their head. I really think it much completer To tell our clever deeds in meter. 'Twas in ’46 on a bright autumn day We entered here four years to stay. We said to ourselves, If students before Have honors won or achieved renown, We’ll do all they did and a little bit more, And some genuine scholarship show the town. Classes may come and classes may go But a class like ours they shall never know; Ready to work and ready to play, Ready for anything any day, And we’ll do our stuff in a great big way.” Then we said, Atta boy”, and with faces grim, Studied and crammed with determined vim Till we knew so much our brains grew fagged, And our eyelids drooped and our jawbones sagged. As Freshmen we started our fine career And made our mark in one short year With Buster Eoff, Kirby, Warren, and Mayes, Chalmers and Bouquot for feminine ways To our patient sponsors we owe the most, Annis, Espy, and Coach Provost. We were Sophomores ere the teachers learned What obvious talent in us burned. We chose to guide our carefree ways, Duane Carter, Kirby, Newby, and Mayes. Ginger and Bill did very well In showing our class knew how to yell. These sponsors kept us well in hand, Rogers, Sherrill and Hilderbrand. We were Juniors by the ancient rule, That governs every public school. ’Twas soon realized at last That here they’d found the model class. Seeman, Kirby, Mayes and Warren, Better officers were never born. Newby was selected as star reporter, Class news was never known to loiter. This year our class was really hep With Larry and Tom to lead our pep. For sponsors we chose for goals in sight, Riley, Deever, Doud and Wright. As the “Senior Class” we reigned supreme With faultless manners and minds grown keen. A bit puffed up, it may be true But aiming now at glories new. Seeman, Newby and Mayes did great, In making our class the highest rate. Tom and Katy led cheers to the last, For the school, the team, and the Senior Class. For sponsors we did nothing lack, With McCullough, Bartlett, and Mrs. Mac. So through our school went the Senior Class, And so through the world shall we proudly pass, Quite pleased with ourselves, and others as well, Our cheery presence the gloom will dispel. The laughs we’ve had, the fun we’ve seen, These things we leave behind, To choose the paths we each shall walk The lives we each shall find. Prophet ij Hobbies! Hobbies! Who on earth has time for one? Struggling with being a Senior we finally found a moment to indulge in our hobby and gaze into our c rystal ball. Colossal, stupendous, and shocking to say the very least were the prophecies we saw. So brace yourself for the impact and we wi 11 tell you what the spirit of the W. H. S. corridors has confided to us. The W'oodward Vocational Agriculture Department and the local chapter of the Future Farmers of America was organized in 1947 under the direction of Mr. C. C. Kinney. During the past two years, Mr. Hugh Robinson has been in charge of the department. There are 44 active members in the local F. F. A. Chapter. During 1949, they made a profit of $7500 on their projects which consisted of beef breeding, wheat, alfalfa, beef fattening, swine breeding, grain sorghums, poultry, dairy breeding, and feed production. A total of $200 in prizes was won by the 22 boys who entered the 1949 Woodward County Free Fair. Everett Hunter, Bobby Robinson, and Harold Rutledge won second in the county in livestock judging. Larry Kline placed first in the crop judging contests. J. D. Barnett placed first at the State Fair in dairy judging. The livestock judging team won eighth place in the State Fair competition. The crop judging team, composed of Larry Kline, Edward Buczinski, and Hubert Hunter placed eleventh in state competition. The Chapter leased 100 acres at the West Air Base from the city of W'oodward and planted it in wheat. Labor for the enterprise was furnished by the F. F. A. boys while the machinery was donated by the farm implement dealers of Woodward. In addition to their regular activities, the boys have experimented with soil fertilization, sponsored a rodent contest, sprayed cattle for lice and grubs, sponsored money making projects, and have built equipment for Chapter use. The Vocational Agriculture Department also serves as a training center for practice teachers of Vocational Agriculture who will graduate from Oklahoma A. M. College this spring. Mrs. C. F. McElvina, teacher. •Assisted with Christmas program. Well has it been said that the Bible is a literature which no age or nation can equal or supercede, though every library in the world had remained unravaged and every teacher’s truest words had been written down.” Wholly apart from its religious or from its ethical value, the Bible is the one book that no intelligent person who wishes to come into contact with the world of thought and to share the ideas of the great minds of the Christian era can afford to be ignorant of. All modern literature and all art are permeated with it. It is not at all a question of religion, or theology, or of dogma; it is a question of general intelligence. It is in itself almost a liberal education, as many great masters in literature have testified.” SPEECH DEPAPTMEMT Seated, left to right: Katherine Gaston, Vice-Pres.; Gwen Owen, Sue Sparks, Wanda Atteberry, Ruth Ann Burton, Secretary; lone Dunshee, Treasurer; Bob Jones, President.
