Oh! fateful fall of 43! The Spirit of W.H.S. was so highly inflated and the faculty became so dazzled by the mental capacity and excellent attitude of the new class of Freshmen that holidays were declared almost every Saturday and Sunday. Hall monitors were completely dispensed with, since the Freshmen served as model students—they were always casting an eye about for any scrap paper that might have been carelessly thrown away by the Seniors or by Leo Aaron; therefore, the school board had no other choice than to dismiss the Janitor. All the upper-classmen began to develop inferiority complexes under the eyes of these paragons of virtue, and there were no class fights! By the second, the Sophomore year, the little company had doubled in size, due to the ever-increasing number of upper-classmen who desired to be identified in the ranks of this host of geniuses, scholastic and ....otherwise. Because Algebra I had always been the despair and, sometimes, the downfall, of second year students, the faculty was shocked to discover Mr. Bill Russell secretly struggling to keep up with the class. (That was two years ago; he has since regained his self-confidence!) Did suddenly finding ourselves upper-classmen make us over-confident? Or unbearable?? Never!!! In the reflected glory of Achievement we remained humble and unaffected. For six months after the production of the Junior Play, The Antics of Andrew , Ur. R. R. Russell's office was haunted by Hollywood talent scouts who wanted to capitalize on the talents of the cast members. In addition, the year brought the State 'B' Football Championship to our N. H. S. By springtime, our self-confidence prompted us to order '47 class rings to a man. In May we felt called upon to ’throw' a banquet for the departing 46 Seniors, the theme being Life in the South Sea Islands . Oh, Gorgeous! Came the long-awaited 1946-47. Did we, again, in this our graduating year, break the law of averages in our exhibitions of extraordinary achievement in all fields? Yes, we did, too! In our class pictures printed within these pages you can read on the face of each Senior his grim determination to meet ably all responsibilities of the Future. Class of '47, nobly done! TR i
