HISTORY AND TRADITION: A Heritage To Be Proud Of Founded in 1900 by Col. John Charles Woodward as Georgia Military Academy, Woodward Academy has a strong heritage and tradition of which it can be proud. The discipline of the mili- tary academy and the feeling of comra- derie instilled in the GMA student can be seen as well in the Woodward Acad- emy student of today. The change from an all-male, predominantly boarding, military school to a co-educational, pri- marily day, college prep school was not a simple one. Though the Academy ' s physical and academic structures have undergone vast changes since it ' s incep- tion, there is one thing that has not changed - the Academy ' s dedication to excellence and the pursuit of knowl- edge. 1 The Georgia Military cademj cadets pass in review at the Presidential inaugeration ol I yndon Johnson in January of 1965. 2.
