The Social Studies department encour- ages students to become active citizens who are aware of the worth of the in- dividual in a free society, and of the necessity for relations with all people. It teaches an appreciation of contribu- tions which past cultures have made. The curriculum begins with cultural an- thropological studies concentrating on how man came to develop a civilization. Cultures are studied with the conviction that experiences of the past repeat or influence the culture of the present and of the future. f A more extensive analysis of compo- nents of the social studies is offered to luniors and Seniors.
