Vorpal Blade The purpose of a school newspaper is to increase interest in all aspects of student life - academics, sports, clubs, activities, and people. THE VORPAL BLADE achieved this with great successl Published monthly, the newspaper also contained editorials and articles on music, personalities, and events in Atlanta. The reader was even of- fered a theme to be used in emergency situations, written by an unknown Hharried English student. Greatly responsible for the increased popularity of the Vor al Blade were its co-editors - Renee Ruppers urg and Chris Swenson - who, with the staff, worked many nights to insure a school newspaper enjoyed by all.
The PHOENIX STAFF worked hard to recreate the school year 1973-1974. As Editor, Carla Berry spent hours in organizing the yearbook, scheduling photography sessions, and working to meet dead- lines. Rusty Slider, Assistant Editor, worked closely with her in checking minute details. Mary Alice Cantrell worked in designing many of the layouts. Because of his efficiency in organization, Brink Dickerson was appointed Business Manager. Since the '74 book stressed copy, Meg Campbell created and assigned copy for various sections. Trudy Cathy and Debbie Walker planned the sports section and obtained copy and group rolls from coaches. Robbie Federlein served as official photographer. The results of lengthy work sessions, the '74 PHOE- NIX portrays the four schools that compose the Academy. The staff has its memories: the Rock Eagle planning conference, Margaret's Christmas present fan eraserj, Mrs. Berry's coffee cakes, Mr. Stock- hammer's wonderful lectures, details about Mary Alice's latest boyfriends, and Carla's new car, the staff party, and most of all - the yearbook itself.
