Mr. Eyler Mrs. Thomas Mr. Spencer The junior class began this year's activities with a meeting at which two proctors were chosen, Mr. Eyler and Mrs. Thomas. In.Tanuary, however, Mrs. Thomas moved, and Mr. Spencer took her place. The class was kept very busy all year trying to earn asufficient amount of money with which to sponsor the Junior-Senior Prom. The first project undertaken was an informal dance held in the school gym, featuring the Luckyettes Band. Fol- lowing this, they sponsored two bake sales, one in November and one in February which increased their treasury somewhat. During the Christmas season unshelled nuts were sold by the Juniors. This was also very successful in that over two hundred pounds were sold. In December a meeting was held at which committees for the Prom were chosen, and plans were drawn up concerning decorations and layout. The remainder of the year detailed preparations were swiftly carried out. The Prom held on May 20 was an occasion long remembered by those who attended. SODHOINGRES The Sophomores held their second annual Box Social and Faculty Auction in the fall of '54, The boxes were bigger and better: the auctioneer was livelier, although the profit wasn't as large. Both years it proved to be an evening filled with fun. This project was followed by plans for an All-Winter Scrap Drive which netted the class good returns and kept them busy on week-ends, The majority of the class helped to pick up corn in the late fall, and this added a substantial sum to their treasury although it required much physical exertion. Their Student Council representatives for the year were Carol Bruns and Walden Damschroder. MRS. REITZEL and MR. FREY President . . . Vice-President . . . Secretary . . Treasurer . . In Playwright's Dilemma, Allan Koch portrays the playwright who is trying to decide how to end his play. Nothing he works out with the aid of his characters CBobby Ameling, Marilyn Avers, Pat Wilkolek, Bob Bockbrader, Wade Schulte, and Dave Youngj seems to please him. At last, when almost in desperation, he hits upon the solution to his dilemma. Hour of Honor concerns a man who has let his son take the blame for a crime which he himself committed. The man QDave Youugj has failed to keep the one promise exacted by the son when the latter took upon himself the father's guilt and punishment. Suspecting that the father may know why the son has grown so bitter during his stay in prison, the uncle QEd Bottsy attempts to force the issue and learn the truth on the very day when the son, having served his sentence, is expected home. The roles of the mother, the fiancee, and the neighbor are portrayed respectively by Mary Lou Niedermeier, Miriam Obermyer, and Carol Meyer. The action of The Valiant revolves around a man condemned to death. The role of the prisoner-to-be-executed is taken by Ed Bottsg the warden, by Allen Crandallg the prison chaplain, by Ed Brunsg the girl, by Virginia Camperg the jailer and the attendant by Galen Sandwisch and Abe Alba, respectively. Happeny. semen pta Wednesday, November 10, by special arrangement with Samuel French, Spring Green, a delightful comedy by Ryerson and Clements was presented by the Senior Class. The action revolves around a boy whose father cannot understand him because his interests in life are not those of the so-called boy. Repeated attempts of the father to reach his son are thwarted by the boy's apparent indifference to all those things whichthe father deems important. Then at the very moment when a satisfactory solution seems to have been found, the son, who hitherto has been wholly unaware that girls even exist, develops an almost maudlin attachment for the sister of one of his classmates. From then on. of course, complications multiply, until the solution to all problems is finally found. Edward Botts has the role of the son who affords his father flohn Littlej many occasions for worry, irritation and consternation, especially after he becomes infatuated with the sister fMary Lou Niedermeierj of his classmate QAllen Damschroderj. The father in his turn is very much interested in his widowed childhood sweetheart QLynne Witmery who is herself the understanding mother of two daughters. The older girl QBobby Arnelingj has a crush on the high school hero fTerry Magsigl whose affections are vied for by Doris Happeny. The youngest daughter Uudy Radeloffj together with the irascible grandfather fwillie Emchl and the cook Uoyce Taulkerj further complicate the affairs of the household. Others who manage in one way or another to add to the entanglement are Faye Baumer, Roy Huston, Roger Hinricks, Sadie Pirtle, and Edward Bruns. The play was under the direction of Miss Anthoneda P. Huyssen. This group of students holds monthly meetings in which various phases of the theater are studied. At one of the most interesting meetings this year, Miss Huyssen explained the history of make-up in the theater. Following this stirring lecture, the meeting took the form of a workshop in which the members practiced making-up themselves and fellow actors. Reading plays aloud is another favorite activity at the Dramatics Association's meetings. Experimenting with short scenes and action with sound effects provided the members an interesting and informative meeting. They tape-recorded these scenes, played them back, and then, as they found their errors, tried to make improvements. President . . Vice-President Secretary . . Treasurer . . Advisor . . . . . The Homecoming basketball game and coronation of the season's basketball queen and court was again under the direction of this body. Another undertaking was the organization of a Safety Patrol for next year. Probably the most outstanding project of the council this year was the editing of a Student Handbook. The handbook is for the purpose of giving the student a better knowledge of the way our school is operated. lt contains such things as school history, school rules and regulations, academic standards of our school, some of the school cheers, the school song, the organizational setup and the constitutions of the various clubs operating within the school, and a detailed description of the way the library functions. natlonal honon sloclety The National Honor Society recognizes that the outstanding student is not merely a bookworm or a grind but one who is worthy in character, unselfish in giving himself to his school and community and noted, too, for leadership. L The Future Business Leaders of America is an organization for students interested in busi- ness. To qualify for membership a student must have taken at least one business subject. The club strives to prepare their members so that they will be more able to face the problems of the modern business world. The local chapter has been very active this year. They enjoyed a well rounded program of social and business activities. In October two delegates and Mrs. Reitzel attended the State Convention in Cincinnati at which Mary Lou Niedermeier was elected state reporter. At this meeting the club was recognized as being among the top five chapters in the state. A Bow Day preceeded the Valentine Dance which was held in February. The biggest pro- ject of the year was an area district meeting held in March with Woodville as host. The band under its new director was very active this year and again brought musical enjoyment and praise to the school and community. Early in the school year lively music was heard throughout the town as the band sharpened its marching technique. One of the most enjoyable experiences of this group was in presenting a joint concert with Gibson- burg's band. It provided an opportunity for both organizations to make new acquaintances and work to- gether on an endeavor of common interest. Representatives of the various sections made up the pep band which played at the home basket- ball games. The snappy marches and ragtime tunes greatly aroused the spirit of both the spectators and the cagers. 1. The profits were turned over to the vi1lage's swimming pool fund. During the months of December and January, the volleyball team met teams from other area schools in competition. Whether they won or lost, they had a most enjoyable time making new friends. The basketball season was greeted with glee as Woodville again motored to various schools and entertained those whom they had invited here, The added pep and vitality was largely due to their cheerleaders, Judy Radeloff and Doris Happeny. The ceremonies took place on Friday, December 10, the night of the York game. Approximately 375 people witnessed the activities, which will long be remembered. The four candidates for queen were elected on December 3 in class meetings after the pep rally. The freshmen chose Laurie Blackmore as their candidateg the sophomores elected Janet Webb, the juniors voted for Mary Lou Taulkerp and the seniors presented Faye Baumer as their choice for queen. Following a brief, but spirited, campaign by the various classes for their candidate, Miss Taulker was elected to reign as the '54-'55 basketball queen. The coronation was held between the reserve and varsity games, w i t h B o b b y A m e 1 in g narrating the festivities. Mary Lou 's attendants, leading the procession, were escorted by Allan Koch, John VieBrooks and Allen Damschroder. Mary Myers, our gorgeous '53-'54 basketball queen came down the aisle next, with Tex Botts and Abe Alba doing her honor as escorts. As the dramatic moment came nearer, Frank Migliori, Junior-High Captain, acted as crown-bearer and preceded our vivacious queen. The trumpets struck up their fanfare and acting captains, Willard Emch and Terry Magsig escorted Mary Lou up the velvet-covered steps to the stage. After the queen and her court were arranged in a semi-circular formation, Miss Myers crowned the new queen with a garland of white carnations trimmed in gold ribbon and sprinkled with gold stars. After the ceremony the queen and her attendants were escorted to reserved seats in the front row, from which they watched the varsity game.
