Principal MR. GLEN RAY WHETSTONE PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE There is a great waste of talent in schools today. Many students have the necessary intelligence but not the needed interest in school. In their courses, they are content not to try to understand what algebra is about or how a sentence can be put together for maximum effect. The way they figure it, they’re loafing schol- astically in order to show somebody something. They won’t face up to what they’re doing----cheating them- selves, putting a crushing mortgage on their own futures. If you plan to attend college or become a success in life, face up to reality. Business and industry are look- ing for intelligent students who aren’t too lazy to use this intelligence. They want people who haven’t adopted the weird notion that they somehow will lose status if they exert themselves academically. You, as students, must act accordingly. Take all your subjects seriously; don’t treat them as something to be endured. Perhaps you have been coasting in school because nobody has been pushing you. What are you waiting for? Nobody is going to nurse you through college or in your first job. You’ll never make it in either place if your study habits in high school have been sloppy. Take stock of your present situation; start growing up today. Study those books with purpose if you hope to earn a decent place for yourself in life. Secretary MRS. ELIZABETH WALKER
