Mr. Thayer and Mr. Hickman share interest in basketball game. Mr. Thayer Becomes Pri of New junior High This year Mr. Fred Thayer will be leaving Woodview to become principal of the new Stonybrook junior High School. Friends and associates, Mr. Thayer has made over the past thirteen years in Warren Township view his departure with both nostalgia and best wishes for a new future. ln 1959, Mr. Thayer came to Warren Township from Indiana Central College. At Moorhead, which was then 7th and 8th grades, Mr. Thayer taught social studies and coached football and track. Before football became an intra-school sport, he helped prepare interested young athletes by conduct- ing flag football contests. In 1960, the junior high moved into the new building and became Woodview. Second semester of 1961, he left Woodview to attend Purdue's Guidance Institute. Upon his return, he served as guidance counsel-eh' and coach until he became assistant principal in 1964. His experience as teacher, coach, counselor and administrator provided a solid background for becoming principal of Woodview in 1968. As principal, Mr. Thayer has been instrumental in seeking and gaining for Woodview accreditation into North Central. Woodview has benefited educationally from many programs suggested by concerned individuals and encouraged and ex' panded upon by Mr. Thayer. His fair and soundjudgement, ability to deal with people and knowledge of the needs of Woodview has gained for him the respect of students, parents and associates. Mr. Thayer's firiends are sad to see him leave but wish him success in meeting the challenges of his new position. ncipal Mr. Thayer waits tables at annual pizza party.
