PFRLD Pi If You probably thlnk, as a great many others do, that re 3Fm1HQ means peace It may mean we will be better prepared, but does lt mean we wlll be the vlctor? It is sald that the one that starts the next war w1ll w1n because of the advance ln atomlc energy Wlll we be the f1FSt to strlke? In the f1PSt World War, Ger many was beaten What happened? She re armed and trled lt agaln It was short of a mlracle that she d1dn't w1n What 1f she should get another chance? We hear there 1S Stlll a German under ground Everyone 1S most concerned about RUSS13 If we start re anu- lng what effect w1ll lt have upon her? W1ll lt make her afrald? What about the Latln Amerlcan countrles? Argentlna? Argentlna has never been too frlendly wlth What w1ll she thlnk and do? A strong natlon may frlghten the world for awhlle untll others then? Surely 1f we have another war lt may be tne death warrant of ClV1l1Zat1On Of course, 1U a plan of re armlng, the vexatlous llttle plan of unlversal tralnlng come 1n There are dlsadvantages on both sldes Most see1 to be ln favor of lt, but wlll m1l1tary tra1n1ng make us prepared? If the men went lnto the servlce, and contlnued tralnlng tlllout break of war, th1s mlght be beneflclal, but lf everyone tralned only one year, w1ll th1s make h1m prepared 1f war comes 1n flve years Is he golng to be physlcally fnzbecause he rece1ved trainlng f1ve years ago?9Most llkely he'll be so slck of the ceaseless dTlll1Hg,UE long fleld trlps, and the monotony of rout1ne tralnlng that he won't ever think of exerc1s1ng gust to keep f1t He mlght learn a pro fesslon, but we can't all be pro fes lonal men, the common laborer w1ll always be needed What about m1l1tary tra1n lng? W1ll the boys have any de gree of personal llberty? W1ll they be able to follow exactly a f1eld of study preferred? They tell you that you w1ll,but .lo you bel1eve 1t? If they wants: manv appllcants 1n one fleld and too few 1n another, w1ll the1r per sonal wlshes be granted? These can only be declded by the lndl v1duals People are always shoutlng about peace, but 1f we have to re arm to obtaln lt does lt 1n sure agalnst another war? If we begln to re arm lt w1ll be about the same as telllng the world that the Unlted Natnons has fall ed and we mlght as well call our delegates home and put them on a If we can't establlsh peace today w1th the pen, we surely won't ever have a better chance Perhaps we need a speclallzed professlon cn dlplonatlc rela tlons to teach ektensnm courses to all, more han unlversal m1l ltary traln nf Who can say? If lt l 1't posslble to es tabllsh peace wlthout fighting or gettlng ready to flght, we mlght as well forget the peace and get used to the thoughtthat there w1ll always be wars Then we wlll all understand why the young man at 18 has to traln for war, and why we must have enor mous taxes, food rat1on1ng and such Unt1l then, we need many good orators to keep shoutlng ln our ear Shlrley Benson 'AS X f F' fd 'J fx X.: F I 0 . Don't laugh That's what many a dlsgrnntled pupil figures out as the reason But put on your thinkin cap, Junionl What was it mother said before she sent you off on your first formal dance? Yes, that's it WTake that disgust ing wad of gum out of your mouth before you leave the house N And who was the young cutie on the bus the other day that looked at you with distaste in her eyes as your Jaws sprung up and down like a Jack in the box You thought something ailed your suit and after you got home you para FW I N So you see it isdt because at is wrong to chew gum It is perfectly all right in the right places But how do you like to sit near someone who chews Juicily and all at once snaps, and then pulls a long string of gum, about 12 inches long, out of his mouth? No,the rule wasn't made be cause of evilnes , but because it disfigures your face, and makes you look very unattractlva Be at your best and when youke all dressed up as the expression goes 'fit to killw or when you are just walking down the street keep your gums from beating to the tune ofWPop Goes The Weaselu If you don't believe this, stand before a mirror tonight and watch yourself' Also listen to yourself It won't take much straining to hear the noise' ded up in front of the longnurra' Louise Bryant Q8 in the hall and saw nothing wrong CNFPFK Ifxjlg KJ JD! Do we want a general for Pres 1dent9 This is a question Ameri can people are faced with at the present time Would he try to command us as he did the army he was placed in charge of? Well, if he did I don't believe the results would be good because American people do not en- joy being told exactly what to do This would'only end in war on the home-front, states against Pres ident. However, wouldn't a general be more experienced in governing a group mfpeople than an ordinary man? After taking charge of a whole army, he should have a good idea. O an My opinion is that a general would make a good President He has been abroad and knowsixxwhat condition the foreign countries are, He has experienced war and if we have another, he will know in more detail what to do An ordinary man only has knowledge of war by what he has read outof books like you and I. If he,be- ing a general, was liked by his soldiers then chances anahecould probably work well with Uwe the people.n A general can't help butlume more experience in the national affairs than a non-military person Who could serve better than a general for President?
