How eager we were the next morning to look out and see the landscape and how new and strange after the peaks and hills of New Hampshire seemed the broad valley and level horizon! Breakfast over some of the trustees came to see the new teacher and I have never since felt so important as I did that morning in receiving them. The Christmas concert in December presented Freshman Chorus. Hill Singers, and Band members performing traditional Christmas music, while the Glee Club experimented with a modern Spanish style. March’s Pops concert presented jazzy overtones with all groups performing spiritual blues and classical pop music. Thanks to the scrupulous direction of Daniel H. Graves. Woodstock Academy continues to exhibit its exceptional qualities in professional form. 87 We. members of the 1982 Woodstock Academy SPIRE, are proud of our school, proud of our community, and proud of our traditions. This is the reason we decided to dedicate our 1982 edition to such pride and tradition. We’ve spent many hours after school, on Saturdays, and during vacations planning, gathering ads. typing, laying out pages, proofreading, and making phone calls. Many of our efforts went unnoticed because no one else was around. 15 We feel our publication speaks for itself. And so. we give to you students. Academy personnel, and community citizens our finished product: our pride. We hope you share that pride. AN INDICATION OF CENTAUR PROWESS In a thriller of thrillers, the boys' soccer team lost its semifinal state tournament match with defending division S champions Rocky Hill, November 19, 1981 at E.C.S.C. After 100 minutes of superb soccer, the l-l deadlock was decided by a penalty shot shoot out”, with Rocky Hill coming out on top in the exchange 4-3. In spite of the outcome, WA remains winners” and the centaur will rear again. V k Everyone who saw the Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team had to be proud” It was sort of an unlucky season, however, we did get this far. We played good, hard, soccer,” said coach Bob Kirk about his state semi-finalist team. The soccer team had an overall record of 10-5-1 with Q.V.C. all-star selections: Randy Lynch (back), Brian Musumeci (forward), and Todd Morin (goalie). With a Q.V.C record of 7-2-1 W.A. traveled to E.C.S.C. Nov. 10 to beat East Granby 3-2 in the first round state finals. Again the team traveled to E.C.S.C. Nov. 14, for a 2-1 victory with two shoot-outs in the quarter finals. The season ended with another trip to Eastern on Nov. 19. Despite tremendous support. excellent skill, and firm leadership, our 1981 soccer team lost to Rocky Hill by one after 80 minutes of regulation play, two scoreless sudden-death overtimes, and one set of penalty kick shoot-outs. It, however, was not a total loss, we are all very proud of our boys soccer team as coach Kirk sums it up, We are very pleased to have had the opportunity to experience the competition and come together as a unit.” ROYS VARSITY SOCCER W.A. This weekend helped show people what a tine creative student population Woodstock has. % With Alice - We Caught The We really caught the Magic with ALICE IN WONDERLAND. This was a truly special group of people who shared their creative talents with an energy and love that we simply don’t see everyday in a high school. May 7th and 8th were two of the most exciting nights we have ever had in the Academy Theatre. Cristina’s performance as Alice was superb — absolutely flawless, and as good as you will see on any collegiate or even professional stage. When the weekend was over, when the magic was gone, it was as if a part of our lives had ended. It was a beautiful time. -Robert Smith An important event to all.
