Wilson Wildcais, Eighth Grade Hi-Y, Have Had Active Year Under the leadership of Mr. Lawrence Kirsch, the Wilson Wildcats have en- joyed an eventful year at Wilson. Social activities, sports events, and service to the school and community filled the calendar of the Wildcats for the past year. The Wildcats have had .many activities. To start the year off, the members attended an exciting football classic between Stanford and UCLA in the Los Angeles Coliseum last fall. This followed a mammoth show in the Hollywood Bowl. With their dates from Wilson the Wildcats enjoyed a hayride, barbecue, and dance in El Cajon last March. A pot luck dinner and dance at the Northeast YMCA made a gay ending for the yearis activities. Elected officers, who served the entire year, were: President, Harold Crandallg Vice-president, Gary Ek, Secretary, Charles Dorrmang Treasurer, Larry Carlin. Treasurer Larry Carlin brought honor to the club by bringing home the first place trophy for the past two years in the Optirnist's Oratorical Contest held at Hoover High. Pals Club Elected officers of the Wilson Pals Club during the first semester Were: Max Hash, President, Deron Johnson, Vice-president, David Estey, Secretary, and Nick Gust, Sergeant at Arms. Second semester officers are: President, Derin Johnsong Vice-president, Danny Horneg Secretary, David Estey, and Nick Gust as Sergeant at Arms. The Pals have participated in softball, football, and basketball, in which they captured a second and third for the Pals League, playing against such teams as Dana Kearny, Pacific Beach, Lincoln, and Horace Mann. April 18th, they enjoyed a fine beach party held at Mission Beach. They also had a Father and Son Banquet. Their sponsor is the Police Department, which makes it possible for the Pals to enter free the Midget Auto Races, Padre baseball games, and State College basketball games played at State College. Fred Bates, their coach and leader, comes from State College and is in his senior year. He played offensive back field for the varsity squad. The club's purpose is to help the boys get acquainted and become interested in sports and become fairly good in all recreational sports.
