Wc greatly regret Mr. Akerly’s announcement of his retirement from teaching. Mr. Akerly attended Wentworth Institute in Boston, Gorum State Teaching College, where he recieved his Bach- elors Degree, and the University of Hartford, where he received his Masters and sixth year degrees. In 1937, Mr. Akerly began teaching in Maine, he came to Woodrow Wilson 7 years later, where he has been head baseball and assistant football coach. Mr. Akerly’s other achievements in the field of sports include being a basketball official for twenty-two years, a college football official for thirty-two years, a past president of the Basketball and Football Officials Associations, and a member of the Connecticut State Board of Football Offi- cials. He is presently Commisioner of Basketball and Foot- ball officials, an honorary life member of the International Basketball Officials Association, and the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield Mass. Mr. Akerly was president of the Middletown Teachers Association, and for twenty-five years was a city playground director. Mr. Akerly’s kindness, understanding, and knowledge, as a teacher and a senior class advisor, will be missed by both the students and faculty. 3

Dedication We the senior class of nineteen-hundred and seventy-six, hereby dedicate our yearbook to Mr. Raymond Marchese. We entered our Freshman year together and from that moment on, he unselfishly gave of himself to the student body. As yearbook advisor he has worked extensivly with us to improve and expand our book trememdously. We’d like to thank him for his understanding, time, and knowledge.

In Memory Our fondest memories go to this man, Mr. Eugene McCarthy, who was a brilliant science teacher, and a dedicated class advisor. He recieved his Bachelor of Science, Masters of Arts, and C.A.S. degrees at the University of Conn. He came to Wilson in Dec. 1951, and was appointed head of the science department on Sept. 22, 1972. He was also photography club advisor. His effort as a teacher, advisor, and friend is missed by all. 4
