Football 1976 was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the Wildcat Football team. People were asking how the Cat’s could ever find someone to fill the shoes of Darrell Hill, who broke the school rushing records for both a single season and for one game. Little did anyone know at that time what kind of season Tony Bostick was about to have; not only did he fill Darrell’s shoes, he broke Hill’s rushing record for a single season by rushing 1,324 yards as compared to Darrell’s 1,178. We had a very young club this year and the future appears to be bright for Woodrow Wilson football. As usual, much of the credit for this success goes to the coaching staff. Coach Rosano did a fine job working with the backfield units until they could run their plays flawlessly in their sleep. Coach Skubel did a great job with the line which improved each week. The play of the line was the key which turned an apparently average team into a great team. Coach Norton worked with the J.V.’s, teach- ing them the basics of football and giving them a strong base to build on next year. And, of course. Coach “Uncle Monty” Montanile did a fantastic job preparing the entire team men- tally and pulling everything together each week. Captains Jeff Gould, Todd Peterson, Randy Hilgert and Tony Bostick displayed great leadership, helped out by the other seniors Dave Gallitto, Roger Pearl, John Gunther, Chris Miller and Richard Spitzmacher.
