This year's Wildcat football team was captained by three young men that were outstanding leaders. Captains Burt Anthony. Darrell Hill, and Richard Lombardo instilled the desire, pride, and senior leadership we try to teach. The Wildcats ended their season with six seniors and thirty-two un- derclassmen that were dedicated to each other and to their school. Our record this year was 4 wins and 4 losses. The 20-0 win in the city’s public school championship gave us our 7th championship in the past 8 years. Darrell Hill scored 13 touchdowns and gained 1.051 yards, carrying the ball 124 times in 8 football games. He also set a school record for yards gained in one game (411 yards in 13 carries against Valley Re- gional H. S. on September 21. 1974). We feel that our backficld. consisting of Darrell Hill. Richard Byrd. Tony Bostick, and Jeff Gould, was one of the best in the state. Except for senior Co-captain Burt Anthony, the line was composed of young and inexperienced players Randy Hilgcrt, Richard Bates. Jim Holley. Chris Miller. Todd Peterson, and Ricky Gallitto. They all improved 200'- and ended the season with a tremendous game against Middletown High School. Our defense (Lomby's Army), was led by Co-captain Richard Lom- bardo w ho did a fine job in calling our defenses. The defense consisted of the following: Burt Anthony, Mark Frangionc. Jim Holley, Mike Dascanio. Ron Staskclunus. John Roberts. Darrell Hill. Tony Bostick. Richard Byrd. Randy Hilgcrt. Dave Gallitto. Scott Rosenthal. Mike Santostefano, Bob Dclprado. and Roger Pearl. Many of these young men played on both offense and defense. We feel we have a great Wildcat football family our coaching staff did an outstanding job with these young men this year. Coach Rosano handled the backficld and did his usual excellent job with the many skills he had to teach the players. Coach Skubcl worked with the line and had a great challenge with the many inexperienced players he had. but he dug in” and developed a line with pride and desire. (The goal line stand against Middletown High School w as proof that he did his job). Coach Norton worked very hard with our .1. V. squad. He gave them the motivation to develop into a fine team. He also handled the scout- ing duties that helped us toward a .500 season. These loyal, hardworking, and dedicated coaches arc the backbone of the Wildcat team. I am very proud of every one of our 1974 Wildcat players, and I am very lucky to have coaches like the ones mentioned above. We would like to thank the administration, faculty, students, cheer- leaders. majorettes, band, and Pep Club members for their outstanding support and hard work. We have a great school here at Woodrow Wil- son and with student-faculty cooperation and pride we will have an even greater school in the future.
