TO THE CLASS OF 1962: An increasingly important function of the school in the educational process is to awake intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn so that students will continue to seek knowledge for themselves. Thus, your graduation from high school may be regarded as a transition to a self-directed pursuit of new ideas, greater understanding, and depth of learning. In this rapidly changing world education must be a life- long and continuing endeavor. If, even in a small measure, your teachers have succeeded in instilling within you this spark to ignite a thirst for greater knowledge, the role of the school has been fulfilled. May I congratulate you upon this, your graduation from high school, and wish you much happiness for yourself through service to others. EDWARD B. FILLBACK Superintendent of Schools Middletown, Conn. TO THE CLASS OF 1962: No matter what your program of studies was during your three years at Woodrow Wilson, you learned through this pro- gram of the heritage of the past and the promise of the future. To a large degree, your future will depend upon - how well you learned from this heritage of the past and how strongly you were motivated by the promise of the future. Each of you must set for yourself the goals to be attained with knowledge that their successful attainment rests primarily with each of you. I know that the heritage of the future will be richer because of the contributions each of you will make as you attain your goals. CHAUNCEY J. COPELAND Principal Woodrow Wilson Senior High School 6
