The launching of an earth satellite with its impli- cations for the future welfare of this country has focused much attention upon the importance of a good education. The staff of this school has always realized the importance of a good education and has tried, within the limits of its energy. to instill within each of you the will and the desire to accomplish to the utmost of your ability, The answer to how successful it has been in this effort lies in the future. However, to each of you success and the best of luck. CH AUNCEY J. COPELAND Principal TO THE CLASS OF 1958- Some things in school and life are learned directly and other things you learn indirectly. We refer to these items as concomitant learnings. In your Mem- orial Page dedicated to Binlcy Minor you have exhibit- ed a concomitant learning-that of thoughtfulness. If I could congratulate you, the Class of 1958, on only one thing in your whole school life, it would be on the fineness of this gesture, perhaps the last official act you take as high school undergraduates. Your thoughtfulness will bring some degree of hap- piness and pride to Binky's parents, Dr. and Mrs. Minor, and to his brother William. Binky, in his modest way, would not have sought this honor. But, Binky, we want you to accept it, because it is just the way we all felt about you. May God bless you, the Class of 1958-May God bless Binky-always. CREIGHTON F. MAGOUN Superintendent .. Armstrong 40 STUDENT COUNCIL Student Council, the legislative branch of Student government, is particularly concerned with maintaining school spirit. Under the capable leadership of Georgianna Cote, director, Adele Hill, secretary, and Barbara Erbal, treasurer, its achievements were such projects as Tag Day, and later, in conjunction with the Parents' Club, sponsoring its annual Bingo to raise money for a new Hi-Fi Musical system for cafe listening and dances. Some of the other activities include arranging trans- portation for away games and sponsoring the mid-year movie, Father of the Bride. Student Council consists of the presidents and rep- resentatives from each class as well as a representative from each established club. Miss Anne Pickett is faculty advisor. ADVISORY BOARD The Student Advisory Board, a branch of the Stu- dent Association, is a representative group elected by the student body. The board consists of six seniors, five juniors, four sophomores, and the captain of Service Squad. The student body elected Dave Patenaude to serve as director of Advisory Board. Mary Ellen Delaney was elected secretary by the board, and Barbara Mekmt, Dave Eaton, and john Bacon were delegated as the Ad- visory Board representatives to Executive Cabinet. The purpose of Advisory Board is to advise those students who have violated-the rules established by Stu- dent Government. Encouragement is given to these stu- dents to promote and to maintain good school citizenship. L.. far :A 'W ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE This year the Assembly Committee with Richard Burleson, chairmang Shirley Davis, secretaryg Giulio Giuffrida, representative to Student Councilg and Miss Louise Facius, faculty advisor, arranged many educational and interesting programs. Among the programs were the traditional Christmas assembly and a lecture and demonstration on color by Professor Vernet Eaton of Wesleyan University. SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE The Woodrow Wilson Scholarship Committee be- gan the year with very successful book-cover, pencil, and decalcomania sales to help increase the permanent scholarship fund. Several Wilson clubs also co-operated by generously contributing toward this fund. The officers this year were jackie Ehlers, chairmang Margaret Inglis, secretaryg and Phil Turcotte, treasurer. Miss Edith Taylor served as the faculty advisor to the committee. SERVICE SQUAD The Service Squad, under the direction of captain Frank Jenkins and John Skubel, has done a good job keeping some of the more energetic members of the stu- dent body in line. The squads functions are to reduce corridor congestion and supervise the cafeteria lines and the smoking area. Any problems or offenses reported by the Service Squad are discussed with the offenders at regular meet- ings by the members of the Advisory Board, the Service Squad captains and any squad member involved. The student body is indebted to the members of the Service Squad for their loyal service in helping the stu- dents to learn to discipline themselves. il Xl UQ J i T ' NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY The Woodrow Wilson Chapter of the National Senior Honor Society is in its twenty-fifth year of service. Dur- ing these years membership has numbered about 420. The purpose of the National Honor Society is to stim- ulate greater interest in scholarship, leadership. service and character so necessary for effective citizenship. This year the Honor Society numbered thirty mem- bers, including nine probationary sophomores.
