CLASS HISTORY Our sprrrts were hrgh and our eyes were shrnrng wrth expectancy that brrght mornrng rn early Septem ber, 1947 as we freshmen, feelrng extremely rmpor rant, entered the halls of Wrlson Many of us had spent our erghth year of school here but many more of us came from surroundrng schools and towns That first day wrll always be vrvrdly stamped on our memorres, for we new students were lrterally lost among a maze of rooms, doors, and upperclassmen The days passed and we gamed confrdence m our selves Then rt became necessary for us to elect officers, srnce we were unable to have any class actrvrtres wrth out efficrent leaders joe Mazzotta was elected presr dent Patsy Howre, vrce presrdent, and Barbara Hartke and Rudy Wrrth secretary and treasurer, respectively Phrl Burgess was elected as our student government representatrve Our actrvrtress as a class now began, and rn October the Freshman Frolrc, under the general charrmanshrp of Phil Burgess, was held m the approprr ately decorated gymnasrum The hrt we made wrth our Frolrc brought due rec ognrtron to us and we now became steadfastly planted m the hrgh school world Trme passed qurckly for us and all the Wonderful trmes we had at the games, dances plays, and assemblres came to a close all too soon but we had three more years at Wrlson to look forward to-and next year we would all be sophomores When we returned m September, anxrous to get the ball rollrng agarn we elected our class officers joe Mazzotta was agam the chorce for president, Nancy Terrrll, vrce presrdent, jean Blatchley, secretary, and Brll Francrsco, treasurer Rudy Wrrth was the student councrl representative In due trme our Sophomore Hop came along wrth rts combrnatron of dancrng, entertarnment, and, of course, refreshments The choloclate mrlk and cookres were, mdeed welcome that December nrght, especr ally srnce our settrng rncluded heaps of snow, snow men, sleds, and tobboggons, and even northern lrghts This successful dance was planned by general charr man Carolrne Palmrerr and her competent committee and helpful advrsors One of the otner org contrrbutrons or us Sophs was the presentatron of a one act comedy Wrldcat Wrllre , rn whrch Brll Carpenter, m the trtle role, and the rest of the cast offered an enloyable assembly pro gram We found also, to our drsmay that thrs year also was slrppmg away very qurckly but wrth all our m drvrdual actrvrtres studres, and socral gathermgs we found many outlets for our rnterests and talents After the usual summer vacatron we began our junror year Cthoroughly elated that we were now up perclassmen wrth home rooms on the thrrd floorb wrth the electron of class officers joe Mazzotta resumed hrs old seat of honor as presrdent, jean Blatchley, vrce presrdent janet Halyburton, secretary and Rudy Wrrth treasurer Erleen Matsen was our representatrve to student government One of the first thrngs our officers and the nomrnatrng commrttee drd was to select the rmg commrttee, makrng rt possrble for us to have our rrngs before Chrrstmas of that year The wearmg of these rmgs now marked us as yunrors and true up perclassmen The recently establrsned WCNX radro the Teen Toprcs pro gram m whrch many of us partrcrpated On February 10th, our junior Prom was presented under the tradrtronal Valentme motrf settrng joe Maz zotta and Patrrcra Flynn were co charrmen of thrs brg rmportant event Also sponsored by us, along wrth the freshmen of that year, was a well attended Sadre Haw kms Dance Dramatrcally, we made our mark as yunrors, too We gave a class play at an assembly and many of our talented actors and actresses starred m the major pro ductrons of 1950 as well One of the most unforgettable events of our thrrd year at Wrlson was the trrp to the Unrted Natrons at Lake Success, New York, sponsored by the Socral Studres department Most of us went, srnce Amerrcan hrstory rs a part of our lunror currrculum At the close of thrs year our student government became known as the Student Assocratron In june many polrtrcal rallres were held before the brg electron day, whrch saw joe Blancato as the vrctorrous presr dent and Bob Hazen as the secretary of our brggest organrzatron Returnrng for our final year at Wrlson, we were greeted by new addrtrons to our faculty and our class as we had been m former years Now, as senrors, we chosen to lead hrs class as presrdent, Evelyn Baronr, vrce presrdent, Annetta Rasero, secretary, and Charlie Herdman, treasurer The brg event the first week of school was the choralogue whrch Wrlson presented m honor of the Tercentenary celebratron of Mrddletown In the sprrng of 1950 thrs was grven to the townspeople on two suc cessrve nrghts Many of us worked hard and drlrgently to make thrs the great success that rt was Another early actrvrty was the annual Christmas card sale whrch, wrth Carl Otfinoskr as charrman, was very profitable Ronald Reagan and Phyllrs Hartrg seem to have been excellent salesmen, for both of them sold over seventy five dollars worth of cards As 1951 rolled around a New Year Dance, grven by the Margmy saw Bob Hazen and Patsy Howre crowned as Mr and Mrss Wrlson of 1951 Also hon ored were Carl Otfinoskr and Marron Zrsk who were selected as krng and queen of the annual Mardr Gras In store for us as our days at Wrlson were comrng to a close were those wonderful senror partres, a Saga dance the senror prcnrc and an elegant Senror Ball Now as we go out rnto the wrde, wrde world to seek our fortunes we take wrth us fond memorres of our hrgh school days at wonderful Wrlson Hrgh Our greatest hope rs that we have set an example whrch wrll be followed by the classes to come, and mostly that we are worthy of our trtle-the Class of 1951 MARGARET REYNOLDS , - Q - . - .
