Class History Most of the members of the class of 41 began th 1r role as Wtlsonttes IH the fall of l935 as seventh graders Ours was the last class to benef1t by these two extra years of Iunlor h1gh school tra1n1ng smce overcrowded condltlons forced off1c1als to ehmlnate the seventh grade the followlng year W1th th1s early start ln a practlcally new school w1th all 1ts opportun1t1es we eagerly anttclpated our htgh school career Those flrst two years passed qulckly and we soon found ourselves on the threshold of our freshman year the frrst phase of hlgh school l1fe packed W1th learnlng and countless soclal act1v1t1es Havrng adopted routme schedule we elected our f1rst class offrcers Presxd nt Raymond Carlson VICG Pres1dent Harry Tavel Sec retary Treasurer Peggy O Connor Representauve to Student Councll for four years Chester McCo1d Slnce there were few clubs open to freshman students our members formed two organ 1zat1ons for the1r own part1c1pat1on The Correspondence Club was started under the leader shlp of MISS Armstrong to promote fr1endsh1p between boys and glrls of forelgn lands The glrls ln the class w1th the help of Mtss Warner organ1zed a Freshman Chorus and have con t1nued the1r membersh1p ln 1t through the1r senror year chang1ng the name as they emerged from class to class The1r outstand1ng publlc appearance came W1th the Annual MUSIC Festr val held durlng MUSIC Week rn the month of May Wllh Ianuary came our l1fSl exams and all the hubbub that accompanres them and by Iune we were qu1te conformed to regulatlon The followlng fall we returned as Sophomores eager to beg1n classes once more and re new our soclal calender An early elect1on resulted tn the cholce of W1ll1am Looby Presrdent Carolyn Malcarne V1 e Pres1dent R1ta McCabe Secretary Treasurer Th1s was perhaps one of the most actlve years of our h1gh school career as many new clubs were avallable for our rnembershlp 1nclud1ng Sock and Busk1n Commerclal Club Margray and a newly organ1zed G1rls Club Athletrcs offered opportun1t1es for many of the boys ln football basketball base ball or track and we can be proud of the records our boys have ga1ned for themselves A gala event of the year was the Sophomore Hop celebrated on May 5th and cons1dered a success bv all who attend d laurels go1ng to Barbara Staursky for an excellent Job as chalrman September 1939 marked the thre quarterway mark for us as soph1st1cated Jumors ln the upper brackets of hrgh school we began to thmk serlously of our remcunmg two years of school and the f.1ture After careful del1berat1on we chose as our leaders Ben Wysockl precedent set forth 1n former years we purchased our class rlngs 1n November 1n order to les sen fmal sen1or expenses A savmgs prolect was started whereby each member of the class deposlted twenty flve cents a month help1ng to defray hrs own 1nd1v1dual graduatlon costs The soclal hlghllght was the lunror Prom held on February 2nd Follow1ng th1s a few months later was Showboat w1th an outstandmg performance by our Junlor actors The1r portrayal of an old melodrama mcludlng the vrllarn Ray Carlson 1nnocent Nell Elleen Hyland and the hero Iohn Ryzcek w1ll long b rem mbered Several of our students were elected to the Natlonal Honor SOC19lY dunng th1s year and others also took act1ve part tn the func t1ons of Student Government W1th Iune we looked forward to our on rema1n1ng year At last the flnal lap rolled around w1th September 1940 SGDIOIS w1th more to do than can posslbly be crammed 1nto one year The electron chose Iohn Byzcek Presldent W1ll1am Looby V1ce Pr srdent Yolanda Bottt Treasurer and Carolyn Malcarne Secretary Our Chrlst mas card campalgn was rece1ved wlth great enthus1asm by class members w1th the result that 1t was the most successful of any campargn ev r to be undertaken W1th 1nnumerable thlngs to do we managed to plan our year to the best advan age, enloytng our senlor banquet ball and p1cn1c More excltem nt frlled our last few weeks b fore graduatlon as we Jomed ln the Tenth An ntversary Celebratron A speclal ed1t1on of a Tenth Annlversary book and a banquet for 'teach ers and alumnl were a'nong the f atures of th1s cel bratton As we leav th. sh lter of Vlfoodrow W1lson we take w1tl'1 us a knowledge of learnxng and of fa1r play and sportsmanshtp wht h lt offer d rts stud nts ln comrng years as alumn1 we hope to r turn to thes famlhar surrounatng and remlnlsc our hlgh school days Carolyn Malcarne Secretary of the Class of 1941 I , 9. . . . , , I l u ' 2 .
