MISS KIM LANDY For Kim this night may have been something she has dreamed about since entering High School. Knowing she was selected by her peers and school mates, may be a memory she'll treasure for many years to come. One thing is certain however, as she goes through this book in years to come, she will remember this night in her life as a very special one. Kim Landy and Tracy Parnell show us the spirit of Homecoming by the smiles on their faces Mens 94 ee HOMECOMING 1984 This years homecoming was not totally unlike the ones it follows. As in the past, a beautiful and bright young lady was crowned and honored with the distinction of being our Queen. Our team played with desire and enthusi- asm; there was a winner and a los- er, only by virtue of the total num- bers on the scoreboard. This year our numbers happened to be 1 more than our opponents. Our band offered us the mood and rhythm to further enhance this special occasion. And then there is the crowd, sometimes orderly, and sometimes not, but always spirit- ed. Now for this year it is over, except for it’s memory and the an- ticipation of next year. 94 The rose is red, the colors are blue and orange — one signafies love the other loyality ... let that be enough said. This years captains for the team were returning wrestlers Bo Jamison and Brad Montaque. The team voted on MVP, and picked Ricky Perrault. This Year there was a J.V. district tournament, in which 6 players placed. They were Jermain Williams at 2nd, Ricky Perrault at 3rd, Brad Montaque at 3rd, Maurice Bonds at 4th, Bo Jamison at 4th, and Curtis Baskerville at 4th J.V.’s coach was Mr. Midgett, who thought that the season turned out to be a very rewardin one for the team and himself. Willie Heart and Gary Bell both won first place in the Christmas Tournament. David Vaughan, Stacy Lewis, and Raymond Riddick Took second place. The team members, for the most part, have managed to maintain weight, grades and attendance at practice. Attitude and self-discipline have added to the teams posperity this year. The only thing the team locked as a team was the experience of each member as wrestler. “If things such as attitude, attendance, and self-discipline remain the same, we should have a very successful year” said Coach McGinley. JV’S FOOTBALL TEAM IS IN THE RUNNING The J.V. season was a successful one in two ways. Firstly once again the team has come up with a winning season (5-0-0). Coach McGinley was disappointed that the team did not win every game but, overall he thinks they did as well as they could. The season was riddled by unexpected situations such as there were times when they were forced to start players out of position or had to play without key personnel. Secondly it has produced a number of good players to move to the varsity team next year. Our goal, on the J.V. level, is to pre- pare young men for the varsity team by teaching them the basic football techniques. Coach McGinley feels this goal was achieved. I could have sworn I saw that ball move. 106 left to right row 1: Andre Durham, Mark Beacham, Grady Lucas, Doug Jennings, Kevin Flenner, Steve Branch. row 2 Glen Carr, Jeff Price, Darrin Fetty, Angelo Cabacar, Kyle Hicks, William Trotter, Vergil Hutchinson, Mike Hooker, and Eugene McNeil. row 3: George Spruill, Lorenzo Sherrod, Raymond Council, Calvin Brown, Eugene Fortt, Alonzo Drew, Alphonzo Myrick, Larry Bradley, Steve Crenshaw. row 4 Coach Ladisic, Coach McGinley, Brad Montague, Mike Jones, Greg Askew, Joe Bentley, Mathew Whitney, Demetrius Hinton, Brian Moring, Kevin Cole. row 5 Maurice Boone, David Washington, Author Johnson, Robert McClellan, Robert Watson, Tom Wilson, Reginald Sykes, Ricky Perrault. The team was young with 8 out of the 11 players, who finished the season, being 8th graders. Pitching seemed to hurt us the most, walking in game winning runs on 4 occassions. Despite poor pitch- ing, the teams batting average remained impressive and the upset victory over Great Bridge was the teams highlight. Steven Crenshaw was voted most valuable and had the highest batting average (498), while Ricky Perrault was the most im- proved player. They don’t stop for anyone. SWING WITH THE SOFTBALL TEAM With a record of 1-8, Coach Staples says this season was a learning experience for the players. The clubs fifty members have participated in various social events, fund-raisers and projects designed to help others. This year the club has a number of social activities. Members enjoyed par- ties on Halloween, Christmas and Val- entine’s Day. They chartered a bus to King’s Dominion and installed the new club president at the banquet in May at Chi-Chi’s. To pay for these activities club members sold Key-chains, items for christmas gift-giving, candy, tan- kards and posters. The Spanish Club provided pinatas filled with candy and sang Spanish Christmas carols for the students at John Tyler Elementary School. These activities were a part of the annual Christmas party sponsored by the S.C.A. For the first time the Spanish Club ts offering a scholarship to a graduating senior. The recipient must be an honor stu- dent in Spanish, must have maintained an “C” average in all other subjects, and must plan to take Spanish in college. Spirit abounds in the land of the Prexies thanks to the help of the J.V. Cheerleaders. This peppy group of fifteen girls put in many hours of practice In or- der to promote spirit and en- thusiasm among the _ student body. With the help of the Var- sity Cheerleaders the J.V.’s have definately learned to “Shout it Out”. During the home Varsity football games, the J.V.’s sold football programs and through- out the year held car washes and sold shakers. The money helped allieviate the debt of new uniforms for the Varsity Cheerleaders. Hopefully, a cheering clinic will be held by the cheerleaders this summer to help neighborhood squads and any interested girl between the ages of 6 and 12.
