FEBRUARY CLASS HISTORY The fondest memorles of our past have Just passed by It all began m February of 1953 when some of the mcest frlendshxps posslble started How exclted we were as we walked down the halls of the Old Wllson How much of a thrrll to even have a semor look our way Yes we were Elghth Graders At last we were a part of that wonderful WOODROW WILSON HIGH SCI-IOOL' The presldent of our student body IH our fxrst year was Klt Morse, and a f1ne one he was Our E1ght Grade year was VICTORY YEAR, and we won the State Champlonshlp m football and en Joyed the assembhes Then It happened' We were Just a l1ttle b1t skeptlcal as we approached that huge buxldmg wh1ch was to be our home for the next four years It was none other than the new WIISOD' How strange we felt as we sat ln the tremendous audltorxum llstemng to our pr1nc1pal Mr R L Sweeney, explam the many new rules wh1ch we were to ab1de by How dlfferent It was to walk down the hall and not bump 1nto someone as had been the sxtuatxon durmg our f1rst year Bob White presrdent of the student body for that year helped to make us feel at home w1th h1s frlendly smrle and pleasmg manner Soon we were actually Sophomores We were commg along f1ne now We felt a wonderful sense of prlde rn belongmg to Wxlson How proud we were to have Barbara Turner represent our llghts of th1s year was the Mock Conventlon Al though Stevenson was elected lnstead of E1sen hower we dxdnt mmd bemg wrong because of the educatlonal value and enjoyment derlved from th1s event Brent Wlckers was elected the first presldent of the Honor Councll Th1s new orgam zatxon IS one whxch started then and w1ll last through the years As Jumors we began to reahze Just how close graduatlon was Belng upperclassmen brought many memorxes to each of us Audrey Cherry as Homecom1ng Queen and B111 Smith as our presr dent of the S C A made us even more proud that Pnncnpal R W Allen presents dxploma to Rnchard Wlllxams Page 24 By Carolyn Branton we belonged to Wllson The Junlor Senlor prom was one event whrch we enJoyed very much Although we had to walt untxl the last part of our Junxor year for our r1ngs and our prom we apprecxated them all the more The basketball baseball and football teams d1d very well xn our Junlor year and watchmg them was qulte a thr1ll We elected B B I-lamaker as our class gziesldent and our advxser was Mrs Barbara wer Of course we feel our sen1or year was the best of all Walkxng down the a1sle 1n assemblxes was one thmg wh1ch actually made us feel l1ke Sen xors Homecommg was wonderful and we saw all our fr1ends as elther football players cheer leaders or partlcxpants rn some other manner Diane Carlo made a very lovely queen to help us remember th1s last Homecommg of our hlgh school l1fe Jlmmy Sanderlin also dxd a fme Job as presxdent of the S C A We elected Harry Ellen as our 4B Class presl dent and he and Mrs Phyllis Byrd, our advxsor made ours the frrst 4B Class to have a float 1n the Homecom1ng parade Our small group worked together and our entry won f1rst place rn the general class1f1cat1on The excltement of Baby Day was one of the fondest memorxes of all What fun we had 1n the Baby Day assembly and at the Baby Day Dance We really felt xmportant as we marched around dressed as bables The en Mr Robert Allen, our new pr1nc1pal d1d a f1ne Job and we enJoyed workmg with hmm dur1ng our sen1or year although we m1ssed our beloved Mr Sweeney very much The excxtement of ordermg our callmg cards paymg our dues havmg our class p1ctures taken and f1na1ly hav1ng our caps and gowns frtted all stxr our memorles What a l1fe we have had these past years In our small class some of the mcest fr1endsh1ps have been made Well 1ts all over now but WOODROW WILSON HIGH SCHOOL w1ll long l1ve 1n the hearts and mmds of each of us of the February Class of l959' That s nght jessxe' met them down the processxonal can begm - .... - I , - an - n - - ' .
