Only nine lettermen returned to the squad from last year. This was a considerably low number. Although the other players didn’t receive letters, they deserve credit for without their support the team could not have been a success. The season as a whole was not very successful and it came to a close Thanksgiving day when the Presidents met Youngstown, Ohio. The game was played on a muddy field, first one team getting the breaks then the other. The Youngstown team was more powerful and the score at the end of the game stood 6-0 in favor of Ohio, the Presidents receiving credit for a hard fought game. The 1939 football team has prospects for a fine season under the direction of the new coach, Ernest A. Wild.
