[ 43 ] Pres 9 3 Hast 1MI anti Testament H S attorneys and counsellors for the Senior Class of 1937, Woodrow Wilson High School, we hereby draw up the Last Will and Testament of the aforesaid client. The client, fearing sudden loss of his now superhuman mental faculties and in the presence of unquestionably sane (?) witnesses, leaves, to-wit: First: To Mr. Codd — A great big 1933 streamlined steam engine to accompany last year’s whistle; and a megaphone to preserve his tender voice. Second: To Mr. Sweeney — Prospects of bigger and better Woodrow Wilson Literary Societies crammed full of debaters and public speakers and what have you; and the Class’ sin- cere thanks for his competent guidance through its four years. Third: To Miss James — The honor of saying she was Advisor of the Class of ' 3 7 and a nice long vacation after the awful strain of directing the class play. Also the deepest thanks the members of the Class are capable of rendering for the amiability and success with which she helped them to graduate. Fourth: To Misses Martin and McGavock — A gallon of aromatic spirits of ammonia to calm their torn and frayed nerves which resulted from the agonies of the Annual. Fifth: To Coach Kibler — Hopes that among next year’s entrants there will be at least four giants to lead the team to many victories in years to come. Sixth: Seventh: To Mr. Stewart — A large bottle of “Daybreak on Chestnut Street” perfume to sweeten the aroma of 101 so that Biology students can enter minus gas masks. To all the Cooking Classes — The power to “see themselves as others see them.” ’Nuf said!! Eighth: To Maggie — The latest model in vacuum cleaners. Ninth: To the Juniors — The hope that they have an Annual and as much fun as the Senior Class had this year. The Seniors shed their robe of Senior pomp and bequeath it to them. Tenth: To the Sophomores — The thrill of attending their first Junior-Senior, and the sublime feeling of actually having reached the status of upper-classmen. Eleventh: To the Freshmen- — The fun of teasing next year’s “rats” and selling seats in the audi- torium; also the Class’ sincere and deepest sympathy that they have three (?) long years ahead of them. Twelfth: To Woodrow Wilson High School- — An interior decorator fresh from Paris (or grammar school) to beautify the interior. If through negligence the client has omitted any property valuable or trivial, he generously wills it to the entire student body to use it as it deems best. Signed and sealed: In the presence of: Ima Knudt Ura Fool Ada Pi SENIOR CLASS OF ’37, W. W. H. S. Kibler’s Wilson Presidents had high hopes of regaining the State Title, despite a terrifically hard eleven-game schedule. As the first three games passed swiftly by, the Presidents seemed to be on their wav to another title. Wilson’s old rival, the Maury Commodores, proved to be the downfall of the Presidents, as thev rose up and defeated the Wilsonites in their first encounter in several years. With this game still lingering in their memory, the Presidents seemed to have lost their spirit and determination and hopes of the State Title disappeared. As the season drew to a close, the Presidents suddenly came back to life, their fight and deter- mination returned and thev became unbeatable. Little hope was held for a victory over Ashland High School of Kentucky, who held the mythical high school championship of this country. In the last three minutes of the game, however, the Presidents came through and defeated their opponents, in a thrilling game. in places, the “Fighting Presidents” will long be remem- bered as a squad that struck fear in the hearts of all their opponents. H jtt |f The Wilsonites dropped their initial game against Newport News and seemed to have fl m lost their spirit along with the contest. After this game, Wilson began to slip: their attack ® w bogged down; there was too much individual playing; the Prexies lost game after game. The mid-term graduation took from Wilson two of its best plavers, Brown and Sorrell. Soon after this took place, Co-Captain Jones was forced to leave the squad, leaving only one veteran, Joe Golombeck. Second-stringers were called on by Coach Kibler, to fill the places of the veterans. Coach Kibler soon learned it was a hard job to whip a squad of subs into a formidable team of Class A calibre. The team worked hard, but they couldn’t seem to click, so the Prexies continued to lose. When the season ended, it turned out to be one ot the biggest disappointments in Wilson’s basketball history. With many members of the squad returning, Coach Kibler is looking forward to a better season next year. They may develop into a fine squad. Here’s wishing the 1937-38 edition of Wilson basket- ball squad better luck than this year’s squad. RESULTS Wilson . . . . This is the first tear that Track has been given the right of way, with no interference from any other major sport. 1 he team was greatly handicapped by the location of their practice held, as well as a shortage of veterans returning from last year’s squad. The squad worked hard, but it was just another track season tor W ' ilson, as they met with a terrific drubbing in the Triangular Meet against Maury and Hampton.
