This production took place April I7th 1959 and as the clock swung round to 8:00 P.M. excitement mounted behind the scenes- costumes were adiusted props misplaced and Mr. Tamburro our director gave last minute instructions to all members of the cast and crew but in spite of these the show began on time with all the splendor and perfection of a Broadway hit. The football game between Wilson and Rayen was played at South High Stadium with Wilson winning the game by a score of lo-6. That exciting moment took place! It was now half- time. The girls walked through the aisle made by the band and formed an arch 'at the 50 yard line. Loretta LaLama, last year's queen, received the envelope from the Student Council sponsors. The name was finally announced. lt was a happy and excited Elaine Cegledy who received the honor. Now Elaine placed the crown for King on the head ot John Trevis. To climax this happy event, the court, led by John and Elaine, walked oft the field while the band played A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody. After the game there was a dance held at the Kra- kusky ballroom. The music was furnished by Pat Barille. A wonderful time was had by alll Our congrat- ulations again to Elaine Cegledy and John Trevis, our Queen and King. With their agility and enthusiasm they brought acclaim to Wilson. Requirements for being a good cheerleader are being active, having the ability to inspire sports spectators with enthusiasm, long hours of practice, patience, and the ability to or- ganize cheers and routines. These qualities are blended in our cheerleaders iust like the words and music of a hit tune. SENIOR STUDENT COUNCIL To arouse school spirit the Student Council, in co-operation with the Key Club, sponsored several Color Days. The students, halls, and classrooms were ablaze with displays of red and white. En- thusiasm was high and it carried over to the games. The Council was responsible for furthering the rivalry between Cardinal Mooney and-Wilson by establishing the Bucket and Shoe trophies. The winner of the basketball game played on the home court gained possession of the Bucket. Wilson won the first round in 1958 and retained possession in 1959. The winner on the gridiron was awarded the Shoe which is the bronzed football shoe of the captain of the winning team in the first game between the two schools. Wilson again was the winner and John Trevis' shoe was immortalized. The highlights of the social functions sponsored by Student Council were the Homecoming Dance at Krukusy following the Rayen Game and the highly successful Sock Hop in our gym after the Bucket game with Cardinal Mooney. In addition to the established proiects clean-up Day, Care collections and the Christmas tree for Woodside, the Council had another first this year, Teacher Appreciation Day. ALEGRA, TA DA, The Y. W. C. A. sponsors the Y-Teens in all high schools to build a fellowship of women and girls devoted to the task of realizing in our common lives those ideals of personal and social living to which we are committed by our faith as Christians. At Wilson there are three groups of Y-Teens, Alegra, Tanda, and Sorelle. Each group had a service proiect for the year. The Alegra Y-Teens, senior girls, took baskets of food to needy families for Thanksgiving. The Tanda Y-Teens, iunior girls, took toys to the Child Guidance Center. The Sorelle Y-Teens, sophomore girls, selected a needy family and purchased a Christmas tree, gifts, and food for their holiday dinner. The Y-Teens obtained their money for these projects by bake sales and donating food and toys. D SORELLE Y-TEE S oft. ALEGRA Y-TEENS FIRST ROW. Miss Pavlov, J. Theisler, D. Black, A, Welch M. Sich, K. One way in which the Wilson Tri-Hi-Y helped this year was by giving a Thanksgiving dinner to a needy family. During football season, the Tri-Hi-Y members sold shakers to help raise funds for their service proiect. The big event of the year was the Sweetheart Dance which was held on February IA, at the C.I.O. Hall in Struthers with Pat Barile playing the music. To raise money for these proiects, ribbons were sold for the annual color day and faculty cars were washed and waxed. LATIN CLUB The purpose of the Latin Club is to encourage an interest in the study of the Latin lan- guage and literature, and its effects on the English language. More than fifty iunior and senior high school students worked' week after week to produce the most popular newsheet published since the proiect was begun five years ago. A vigorous Home Room Sales Campaign stimulated interest in the paper and was reflected not only in increased sales, but in the day to day participation by the students. Outstanding work was done by Judi Andrews, in editorial proiects, and by Ronald Zuti, in editorial and production work. A new emphasis on illustration was accomplished by Marianne Sims and Carolyn Updegraff. Special issues at Christmas and Easter, and special football and basketball issues proved most popular. The Staff worked hard to make possible the purchase of some new equipment which will give the Wilson News a more finished appearance. A. Wanat, K. Shuster. Loretta Szabados-Secretary -for Publicity GIRLS' ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION The purpose of this organization is to promote interest, sportsmanship, and skill in activities out- side of physical education classes. Special activities this year were badminton, table tennis, basketball, volleyball, baseball, and bowling. At the annual banquet, awards were given to the high scorers in each field. KNEELING: J.
