This was the first trial year for the cheerleaders to be operated under their own direction: they used what they thought good, and threw out the old. The most successful cheer of the season was the We've Got a T-E-A-M. It started out the season as our own original cheer and rose to fame resulting in its adoption in other district schools. The cheer leading squad consists of five students, three boys and two girls. A new system of election makes this club a democratic body. The boys and girls volunteer, in turn are voted upon by the present cheerleaders, and are then taken before the student body to display their talents and possibilities. The result of the voting tells who will be eligible to wear the bright new out-fits. This year was just the beginning of a new and different type of club. With the success and goals reached in this first year, the sky is the limit. il X -R31 Page Sixt -nine L' Y l LG THON T JNKWNMK I-LJ C .J 19 I pq YY CITY CHAMPIONS F T BATTAGL A D EFEA UND 4-la 1 E E 19 X Band Q The Wilson Band this year 1S one of the finest in 1ts history After compiling three or four years experience for the majority of the band members the band enjoyed a very bright and prosperous year Never before had the rnstru mentation been so complete as to include a baritone sax and an oboe These two instruments added depth to the reed sect1on and produced a well rounded organ effect Mr Omems 1nv1ted Mr David Gornston as an added attraction to be guest conductor for the spring concert Mr Gornston presented the 60 piece Wilson Concert Band in new presentations of old symphonic and concert band arrangements He demonstrated the new techniques and poss1b111t1es for modern-concert band performances By the use of mutes hats traps felts etc he created the most unusual and spectacular band performance ever g1ven at Wilson The Marchlng Band engmeered and developed approxnmately forty band and the Wilson Band was therefore elected to represent the South Side in the annual All Star Class1c on Thanksg1v1ng Day The malorettes should also be commended for their outstanding performance during the gridiron campa1gn Those 1n the band who are graduating are George Guzzo Annette Bakes Ioe Renalh Sally Whrte Bob Marsh Nick Garrxtano Drck Shay Dick Butler Iuhus Tareshawty Eddie Smrek Eddre Frankowski Chuck Eisele Betty Yavorsky Carolyn Davls Donna Burtner Carolyn Premazich Robert Wynsen Carmen G1rard1 'Pig Seventytw y formations-during the 1946 football season.
