Page 7 text:

Address to Seniors Among the Greeks, who were both poetic and imaginative, those who had challenged their admiration, were translated to the skies. Most of the constellations of stars in the heavens bear the names of the mythical heroes and heroines of this ancient people. Among the favorites of the gods according to old Greek mythology was the mighty hunter, Orion and his dog, Sirius. The legend runs, that Orion was removed from the earth as was his faithful dog, and became known as Orion and the Dog Star. We might say that to hunt means to search. Therefore, a mighty hunter could be taken as a mighty searcher, and perhaps the Greeks in their poetic imagination regarded Orion as a mighty searcher as well as a mighty hunter. I can easily imagine that our year book is rightly named Orion, the searcher for truth, beauty, and goodness that live in every group of young people — a searcher for and a recorder of the ideals of a great institution. As such it is well for our Orion to emulate the thought of the celestial Orion, that star and his faithful dog that sweeps the heavens and travels in the high places. I would leave this thought with the Orion staff — that our year book ever be a searcher and recorder, searching the high places for the lofty ideals that youth holds in common with Woodrow Wilson School. GEORGE W. GLASGOW. 1940 ORION
