ALMA MATER MISHAPS September 2-Mr, Peregoy declared that the students' summer vacation hadn't been long enoughg so he postponed the opening of school until October l. October l--School opened with a week of Wel- come Back parties for the Seniors. October 9-Mr, Jackson conducted a jam ses- sion on the Fine Art of Skipping School with complete advice and instructions on l-low Not To Get Caught. October 'l5-All the students in Mrs. Milli- ron's Latin classes fainted when she failed to raise the windows that day. October 3'l-A Halloween party was held in the Gym for the students and faculty mem- bers. Coach Van Meter and Miss Minton received prizes for having the most origi- nal costumes. November 20-Harold Casali was chosen by the Senior class as the dumbest senior. November 26-Robert Phipps and Bill Flan- agan sang special numbers with Sammy Kaye's orchestra at the Thanksgiving dance. December 3- One of the producers of the Metropolitan Opera heard Nancy Sparkes sing at a press conference and offered her a leading role in their newest production. December 'll-Rita Harvit and Patty Har- voth were sent home from school with pneu- monia caused by a draft from Mrs. Vass's open windows. December 19--Tennessee Ernie Ford and his Top Twenty choir presented the Christ- mas Cantata. Afterwards, free records of the music were given to all the students. January 5-Those students who were tired becouse of their holiday partying were excused to go home and catch-up on their sleep. January 'IS-Mr. Peregoy announced that no semester tests were to be given because the students had worked their brains l??l too much already. January 21- A new course in Stone Art was added to the schedule, with 5 Parker and Sue Gwinn acting as instruf February 6-Ned lBuzzyl Ragland and C Smith were kicked off the baske team for failing to score any points game that night. February 'l2-Ted Mack and Arthur Ga judged the annual Hi-Y Talent Show. February 20-Mary Jane Mulholland rushed to the hospital because she ' to get one bright idea in 24 hours. March 4-Bettina DePaulo confessed to McClure that she hadn't learned hei State Chorus music because she 4 want to be in the Chorus this year. March 20-Miss Porter let her English c go outside so the students could ge right atmosphere for their essays Me Spring Fever. March 30-Linda Kessel and Melba l were chosen as co-captains of the new track team. April 'I-John Whitlock was expelled school because an April Fool time he placed on Mr. Carte's desk reall ploded. lt was filled with molasses household glue. April 'I6-The French classes received c from Brigitte Bardot saying that she be a guest speaker at their banquet. April 28-Strange sounds were heard some laughing gas escaped from c periment in Mr. JarrelI's Chemistry ll es. May 9-Xavier Cugat and his orchestra ed at the Prom, which was held i Beckley Hotel Ballroom. May l9-No valedictorian and saluta were chosen for graduation becouse n ior had better than a 2.60 average May 26-Due to the loss of the comn ment program script on May l9, gr tion exercises were postponed until .lui
