We : the depths offfour grateful hec you . if 5 :si SQ? ff RECOGNITION Since this is the first year that Woodrow Wilson has had an official Alma Mater, we would like to give some recognition to Roselyn June Davis, the composer. Roselyn came to Woodrow Wilson when she was a sen- ior. She was unhappy over the prospect of changing schools during her last year, but she made friends and fell into the swing of things very rapidly. After graduation Roselyn attended Michigan State Uni- versity for one year. Since she was not certain about her major she decided to work awhile before continuing her education. She then obtained an office job with Best 8. Company in New York City. Roselyn is now working as a reservation clerk at the Hotel Manhattan and attending night school at New York University. During the school year of l954-55, the Student Council undertook a project of obtaining an Alma Mater Song for the school. Prizes were offered to the persons submitting the 'best Alma Mater Song. The Alma Mater Song written by Miss Davis was adopt- ed during the school year i957-58 as the Alma Mater for the school. ALMA MATER Roselyn June Davis Hail to Woodrow Wilson Alma Mater dear, We shall ever sing thy praises Through the coming years. We love the things you stand for Knowledge, truth, and right Love, faith, hope, and fellowship, Thy own creed is our light. 5 '- if X ful 'X HU rv 5553 P '!,, fe 6 ll?-:Q 8 w,,,,,,4 VRXN CW M DE C, Q. Transportation was provided for this memorable oc- casion by the A-Ross-H. Davis Drive-it Company. Parking lot attendants are Larry Smith and Barbara Burton. On entering the building we notice the six-foot mural of principal, Harold Casali, with his secretarial staff, Judy Frazier, Linda McManus, and Connie Manning. This internationally famous masterpiece was painted by Susan Parker, Jim Bob Kessinger, and Patsy Skaggs, graduates from the Afghanistan Art Academy, but was unfinished because the great tycoon, Herbert SMcMillan, refused to extend the lcan on the paint brushes. Continuing on to the cafeteria, we find Charles Walker, head chef, with his assistants, Mary Hutchinson, Linus Hollaway, Loretta Keith, and Johnny Banco, preparing a new dish called Robert's Rarebit, named after the famous nutritionist, Betsy Roberts. The next person we meet is Peggy Richmond, president of the Beckley Be-Bops, a community concert organization, which is soon to feature the vocal team of Nancy Sparkesand Jack Thomas singing the Aria to a Hole in the Ground, or Baby lt's Cool Inside, written by Mary Jane Mulhol- land, a music director at the Saskatchewan School of Song and Symphony. At intermission, there will be a number featuring Betty Greer, Sue Gassner, Connie Sparacino, and Jerry Rose dancing to the immortal strains of The Eternal Triangle Plus One. Anne Kessinger, the first woman president of Y.M.C.A., now joins our conversation and informs us that several outstanding basketball players have formed a Church League team, called the Baptist Basketeers. Among these are Jerry Lilly, Larry Smith, Ronnie Barker, Bob Phipps, Bob Howery, and Earl Pack. We find that Linda Kessel has given up her position as head football coach at Vassar to captain this team. Their coach is the famous pentathalon champion, Bettina only five-more-miles DePaulo. Her assis- tant is that Larry gee-whiz Mitchell. Pat Wagner has just informed us, as publicity chairman of the school, that John me-crash? Dorsey has been awarded the Safe-Driving Award for I968-69. Second and third places went to Wendell Williams and Paul Strock. As we trek on around the mammoth cafeteria, we stumble over Harmon Lushbaugh and his partner, Ferrell Pauletto. They have, at last, discovered the new species of dirt the world has searched for. Photographers and re- porters immediately are on hand, and, in their interviews with Professors Lushbaugh and Pauletto, we learn of the vast set up these scientists have. They have three lab assistants, Sam Wood, Flo Henkle, and Wanda Rose. They, also, employ two molecule counters, Patti Meyer and Mary Ann Stover. We have an unusual treat in that the world's four most famous lawyers are among our number. They were called here from all over the world to settle the world's most baffling case. Our lawyers are Buzzy Ragland, from Paris, France, John Lynn, practicing in Cairo, Egypt, John Whitlock, from Moscow, U.S.S.R., and Duke James, Crab Orchard's famous lawyer. They are here to settle the case in which Don Lively demands that he be able to place a DE, lDoctor of Embalmingl after his name in advertising his fu- neral home. 26 CLASS PROPHECY We are now being served refreshments by the school's perky waitresses, Sherry Gallaher, Nancy Kessinger, Nancy Bowyer, Marty MacDonald, and Brenda Davis. While eating our refreshments, we chatted a while with the editor of the Beckley Bugle, Judy Greiner. She informed us that Cathy Hess, Mary Caudill, Mary Ellen Cole, and Mary Baker had received the Noblitzer Prize for their best-seller, TEMBERANACE INTTHEWHIGH SCHOOL. IT HAPPENED TO M THE FIFTY-NINERS Q September 10, 1956 We believe the Class of 1959 has much potential -Eagle Dispatch-Boy, are we gonna show 'eml December 19, 1956 Officers for our first year at WWHS were announced today. Catherine Hess is our President lShe certainly was a nice Home- coming Queen last year at Junior Highl. George Roebuck is our Vice President with Patricia Meadows our Secretary and Frank Shrewsbury our Treasurer. With these officers we will go far. Frank always did have an eye for money. January 10, 1957 At our second Class meeting today, Mr. Peregoy chal- lenged us to study hard during the coming three years at WWHS and adequately prepare to take our places in the world. We believe we shall. January 10, 1957 Judith Frazier, Margaret Richmond, Cathy Hess, and Jerry A, Lilly were the Sophomore representatives on the Commence- ment Announcements Committee. It is hoped that they can help the Upperclassmen pick a permanent announcement for WWHS. September 3, 1957 At last! We're Juniors, and no Phy. Ed. November 19, 1957 We presented our Junior Class Play today. lt was Seventeenth Summer with Connie Manning, Betsy Roberts, Patti Salango, Jerry A. Lilly, Jeane Rardin, John Lynn, Harold Casali, John Dorsey, Judy Greiner, R, C. Thompson, Betty Greer, Larry Smith, and Norma Stanley, We all looked for the talent scouts back stage. It was so good. January 1, 1958 Mr. W. A. Comer retired today after serving WWHS for 26 years. We certainly will miss him. March 3, 1958 Paul Cox and Alice Lively ithose lovebirdsi were an- nounced today to be the WWHS representatives to the West Virginia Know Your State Government day. We hope to get to hear them talk on government when they return. May 10, 1958 The Junior-Senior Prom was tonight. lt cleaned our pocket- books, but, oh, were the decorations beautiful. May 24, 1958 Harold Casali will be the first WWHS student to go abroad on an American Field Services Scholarship. He will go to Denmark. This certainly is a good return for us just after having Goran Dalfelt from Sweden as an exchange student here this year. We hear that the Student Council wants to sponsor another student from another country here in 1959-1960. iThe picture shows Goran and Ha'rold in Halsinborg, Sweden? 75 May 26, 1958 Our 1958-59 officers have been announced. Paul Cox is our Prexy, Duke James our Veep, Pat Meadows our Secretary, and Larry Mitchell our Treasurer. We all know who Paul's campaign manager was. May 26, 1958 We were told today that Judy Greiner will be Editor-in-Chief of the Dispatch next year. We always did have great faith in Judy. May 31, 1958 Mr. Walter Broyles retired today after 25 years of clean- ing WWHS. Pop certainly is a great guy. October 3, 1958 The Bronze Eagle, which the Class of 1957 presented to WWHS, was unveiled today during our Homecoming pep meeting. Don't drop it boys, it'll be S100 apiece. October 23, 1958 Our Senior Class Play, Stardust, was given today. With the wonderful way it was presented, it's a wonder that all the cast isn't asked to go to Broadway. Thanks, loads, Mrs. Vass. May 9, 1959 Tonight was our last Prom. lt doesn't seem possible that it's WE that are leaving. Thanks, for the beautiful Prom, Juniors. June 1, 1959 Our Alma Mater is now behind us. Al- though the team wasn't outstandi-ng, Coach Bragg worked unceasingly to produce the best from the boys. Bill Flanagan and Duke James served as co-captains of the team which showed itself worthy of representing Wood- row Wilson. The class of l959 expresses their sincere appreciation to the coaching staff of Wood- row Wilson. We salute these men in uphold- ing all of Woodrow Wilson's traditions. lOO J Coach Nelson Bragg works unceasingl produce football tveams worthy of represe tion of the school. He is a former athlet W.W.H.S. and Marshall College. Beside duties as head football coach, he is in ch of our track squad and assists Coach V Peelish with wrestling. Coach Peelish heads the wrestling sc very capably. The team looks forward good showing, if not this year, then in following. He assists Coach Bragg in foo and track. BASKETBALL Jerome Van Meter, wi-th Lawrence Wise- man assisting, worked hard to produce an- other outstanding basketball team. Prospects for next year's team look good since many juniors and sophomores will be left. Ned Buzzy Ragland led the team as captain, Athletic Director for Woodrow Wilson High School, Jerome Van Meter lred our basketball cagers. He has gone far beyond a goal that could have been set, for year after year a well coached team has been the outcome of his labors. The foundation for our athletic teams is formed by Coach Lawrence Wiseman. Coach Wiseman teaches the fundamentals of both football and basketball to the sophomores. Through the fine work and cooperation of these coaches they have developed what we consider the best coaching staff in the state. it ., 'li E ,Elf 3 ' on st' i il if ,S fl' V ,., Q.. .
