DEPARTMENT HEADS-Our t h i r t e e n department chairmen serve as a link be- tween their special department and the ad- ministrative statt in planning the very best possible curricula tor their department. These are people ot many talents. Mr. Dwight L. Wentzel organized the tirst F. B. l.. A. at Wilson. Everytime we enioy our wondertul swimming pool, we thank Mr. Rowland Davis who designed it and our gym. A college maior in l-lome Economics at Oregon State University aids Mrs. Maida Olmstead in helping prepare Wilson girls tor married lite. Mr. Frank Ochoa acts as chaperone on the yearly trip ot the tourth year Spanish Class to Padua l'lills. Mr. Row- land Thomas was sponsor ot Demos seven years and a class sponsor tor twelve years. We are proud to have Mr. Nicholas Fur- ianick, who is also assistant conductor ot the Long Beach Philharmonic Orchestra, as the head ot our music department. Youth Come ot Age, a text used by the seniors, was written by Mr. Wellington Pierce. Miss Ruth Burdick, head ot the art department, helped to plan our stage. Mr. Paul Teschke is Lt. Governor ot the Southern California Association ot World Friendship Clubs. l'lead ot English department tor sixteen years, Mrs. Anna Townsend is President ot the State Division ot the American Society ot University Women. Miss Vera Johnston started the Student and Supreme Courts here at Wilson. Mr. Howard Bakken takes time trom his teaching duties to sponsor the Math Club. Those people with their varied interests are an important part ot our Wil- son Faculty. MERYL DUNKLE-l-lis hero was Theodore Roosevelt and he wanted to be a writer. l-low lucky we are that his book ot poems remained un- published or Dr. Dunkle might have become a writer and never have come to ioin the Wilson taculty 22 years ago. l-le leaves us this year with our good wishes and hopes that his two ambitions, to take that trip around the world in a small boat and become an M.
