LOWER: Johnnie Johnson, whose cherry voice and happy disposition never fail to make us smile as we reach for our telephone. Mrs. Pinkard, Mr. Bemis' efficient secretary. Mrs. CLERKS-Bruinville has increased this year by almost a thousand students, and our clerks have continued to do their work quiet- ly and etticiently. Although they are kept busy, they always find time to be friendly with the students, trom problems ot hand- ling blue slips to tinding lost books and pre- paring election petitions. From the tront ottice to the Girls' Gym, the clerical statt are most helpful to students in distress. The clerks work the year round. While we are en- joying our vacations, they are busy at school preparing tor the Fall semester. P.T.A.-With the theme, 0pportunity Un- limited , this year's P.T.A. has tinished an- other satistying year ot promoting better relationships between school and the home. Under the guidance ot Mrs. Fromlath, they donated a permanent bulletin board that, placed in tront ofthe library, gives students a quick resume ot the week's activities. With a successful l-lam Dinner, they raised funds for a scholarship. They sponsored an inform' ative talk on the United Nations and were, in turn, instructed by Wilsonites in the ads vantages ot student government. Thompson. Standing Mmes. ADMINISTRATION-Our school is steadily improving its programs ot study and cur- riculum to serve the individual needs ot all pupils. lt is the duty ot our vice principals and counselors to help students talce advant- age ot these opportunities. Advice on ca- reers, help with scholarships, and tallcs with the parents are just a tew ot the important jobs this hardworking group pertorms. Miss Meilcle and Dr. Sager, althoughilboth new to Wilson this year, have won the re- spect and love ot the entire student body with their lcindly understanding and expert guidance. Counselors tor separate grades ably handle the students' many problems. The seniors will long remember Mr. Lewis and Mr. Humphrey tor their triendly advice. With Miss Green helping the Juniors and Miss McClellan, the Sophomores, this year's underclassmen plan their programs tor high school to prepare them tor their chosen voc- ations. DEPARTMENT HEADS-Our t h i r t e e n department chairmen serve as a link be- tween their special department and the ad- ministrative statt in planning the very best possible curricula tor their department. These are people ot many talents. Mr. Dwight L. Wentzel organized the tirst F. B. l.. A. at Wilson. Everytime we enioy our wondertul swimming pool, we thank Mr. Rowland Davis who designed it and our gym. A college maior in l-lome Economics at Oregon State University aids Mrs. Maida Olmstead in helping prepare Wilson girls tor married lite. Mr. Frank Ochoa acts as chaperone on the yearly trip ot the tourth year Spanish Class to Padua l'lills. Mr. Row- land Thomas was sponsor ot Demos seven years and a class sponsor tor twelve years. We are proud to have Mr. Nicholas Fur- ianick, who is also assistant conductor ot the Long Beach Philharmonic Orchestra, as the head ot our music department. Youth Come ot Age, a text used by the seniors, was written by Mr. Wellington Pierce. Miss Ruth Burdick, head ot the art department, helped to plan our stage. Mr. Paul Teschke is Lt. Governor ot the Southern California Association ot World Friendship Clubs. l'lead ot English department tor sixteen years, Mrs. Anna Townsend is President ot the State Division ot the American Society ot University Women. Miss Vera Johnston started the Student and Supreme Courts here at Wilson. Mr. Howard Bakken takes time trom his teaching duties to sponsor the Math Club. Those people with their varied interests are an important part ot our Wil- son Faculty. MERYL DUNKLE-l-lis hero was Theodore Roosevelt and he wanted to be a writer. l-low lucky we are that his book ot poems remained un- published or Dr. Dunkle might have become a writer and never have come to ioin the Wilson taculty 22 years ago. l-le leaves us this year with our good wishes and hopes that his two ambitions, to take that trip around the world in a small boat and become an M.
