Q our df' gag f The memory of bright summer sunlight on shimmering sand will live long in the hearts of XVilson students. Ifpisodes from un- eounted beach parties will he told and retold .... the dog that swiped the hot dogs .... the sunburn that reached from here to here .... the tide that eanie in too fast and the ear ride home in salt-seasoned pedal-pushers and shirts .... the hypnotic fascination of eapering Whitecaps coming closer, then retreating. EM A few will count white sails on Alamitos Bay among their souven- iers. Others will thrill to the memory of water skiers skimming across the water behind a speed boat, while the more timid remem- ber ducking rides on plastic pillows powered only by the surf. Then, there was the grunion season in '52. Quick silver flashing through vainly grasping fingers, and the two or three that failed to flash lying lonesome in a sodden hurlap sack. lt was hard work, lot of exercise, and plenty of fun. lt felt so good to get home and he warm again! Your student body officers alone couldn't do it. Neither could the faculty nor the adminis- tration. But working together, 2300 of us have done it. Let's cherish and keep it. A. H. THE WILSON MARCHING BAND under the baton of Nicholas Furjanick, again established itself as the topflight talent in Southern California by displaying its musicianship in the Southland. The red, gold, and gray achieved first rating in the Southern California music festival held in Santa Monica, scoring first in the concert division and in sight reading. The unit traveled to Pasadena New Year's Day to take part in the annual Rose Parade as representatives of the city of Long Beach. The band with its tireless majorettes did justice to Wilson as it played for thousands of onlookers. Acting as host to the All-Western Band Revue was another of the many activities they participated in during the past year. The band has performed in both senior high schools, and added to the success of the Campanile sales kick-off campaign. 86 URCHESTRA: Under the direction of Nicholas Furjanick the orchestra of VVoodrow WVilson has maintained its fine rating of superior'l throughout the year.
