GIRLS' VARSITY SOCCER Although 1961 might not have been the year for us to be champs, we would hardly call this season a waste of time. Captains Leslie Travis and Stefi Sherman were always there to lead us in the warm-up drills which we loved so much. Regina Lanter, our goalie always managed to skip the heavy warm-ups by practicing with our honorary teammate Joan Pinsky. Forward llyssa Wolkoff led the team in goals followed by Gigi Gesser, Lisa Gaton, Margot Reische, Lisa CSpunkyJ Gunther and Roxanne Karsch. Our forward line was backed up by our very strong half-back line. Leading them was senior Jeanette Macht followed by Calliope Tavlarios, Leslie Travis, Monique Jackson and Karen Silver. As always, Calli's arms and legs were all over the field as well as her throw-ins which were more then noteworthy by all. Our Fullbacks were big and mean thanks to the contributions made by players Jessica Cherry, Wendy Caplan, Stefi Sherman, Ilene Nelson, Vicki Herrera and, who could forget, Stacey Leigh, who spent her time charging head first at anyone who came near her. Of course, we couldn't take credit for such a team without thinking about Coach Anne Kaslow. Kaz worked hard with us and we REALLY did love all those laps around the soccer field. The team had o lot ofspirit. We went on the field singing ourfavorite song Here She Comes and often came off the field with what was thought to be broken bones. All in all, we had a good time, and our spirit never dropped-that's what counted most. 155
