CLASS HISTORY Innineteen-hundred and fifty-four, forty excited and inexperi- enced Freshmenmade theirdecision to further their education at Woodleaf HighSchool, Miss Margaret Fisher and Miss Mary Cole- man helped make the year a happyand successful one, After nine short months of hard work and study, our year as Freshmen was over, Thirty-six of our classmates returned the following year as Sophomores, with Mr. William Cansler as our advisor, During the Sophomore year we took part in the various activities; the time flew by all toofast; and another year was ending before we realized it. After two years of hard workand play, thirty-three ofus re- ceived the reward of beingJuniors, During the year Betty Swaim joined our class. Our class officers were JeanSafrit, President, Darlene Penninger, Vice-President; Della Ann Snider, Secretary; Faye Kluttz, Treasurer; and Mary Ann Robbins, Reporter, During the yeara Tri-Hi-Y Clubwas formed with Miss Pansy Hopkins as advisor, Starting the year off with more school spirit, we passed our goalof five-hundred dollars through our magazine drive, Giv- ing the Junior-Senior Banquet and the Jun ior Play, ''Scootin' Grand- ma!'' were outstanding events all of us will remember. Our boys'! Basketball team was Runner-Upinthe tournament, Our team also won the Sportsmanship Trophy, and our coach, Mr. Cansler, was named Coach of the Year. Weenjoyedthis year very much under the guidance of Miss Pansy Hopkins, At last, we reached the last phase of our high school life. Thirty of our original class became dignified Seniors. We were fortunate to have Mrs. David Chambers as ouradvisor, Our class officers were Charles Benson, President; Bill Abernethy, Vice- President; Peggy Miller, Secretary; Jacqueline Hege, Treasurer; and Mary Ann Robbins, Reporter. During the year we settled down to a new schedule, nostudy halland five periods, Theevents dur- ing the year were the Halloween Carnival, receiving our class rings, producing the Senior Play, ''Backwoods Romeo , Junior- Senior Banquet and planning and preparing the ''ACORN ! and the ISA As we near graduation, we look back over the eleven years and realize that we have attained the goal which then seemed so far away. Witha sense of achievement and with many happy memo- ries, we carry withus the resolve toseeknew goals by always ful- filling our Senior Motto, ''Not for ourselvés, but for others.
