CLASS PROPHECY The year is 1965 and I can hardly believe all my good fortune. During my off- duty hours asan F., B, I, nursein Washington, D. C.,I worked in my private labora- tory and finally produced a panacea for growing old. For my noble deed I was made guest of honor onthe television program ''This Is Your Life'', The other guests were my classmates from the graduating class of 1958, First of alllsought out BettySwaim and Pauline Myers who weremy assistants during my laboratory experiments. Betty is a medical librarian and Pauline also is a nursefor the F. B. 1. While we were talking, Bobby Snider joined us and thanked us again for helping to pull him through after the last accident he had as a hell driver. I spied Darlene Penninger and Jacqueline Hege and went over to talk with them. They both are housewives and school teachers living and teaching at Norfolk Naval Base. Mary Ann Robbins joined us with her darling little twin girls, She had just returned from Hawaii where her Air Force Sergeant husband was stationed. NextI met Bill Abernethy, a big business executive in Chicago, and Harry Ward, a Chevrolet dealer in Salisbury. I found out that Harry's biggest sales are coming this year from cars painted that same shade of blue as his ''blue goose . Willie Leatherman, a school teacher at our alma mater, was trying to bribe Joyce Cartner into getting Elvis Presley's autograph so she could show it to her history students back home. Joyce is Elvis's motorcycle shiner. Mary Ann Jones and Peggy Miller were right at home that night. Mary Ann is a beautician at the ''Sleeping Beauty , one of the largest beauty salons in Hollywood. Peggy, the famous gossip columnist, gave me the low-downon the latest Hollywood romances. I overheard Della Ann Snider and Jeanne Safrit discussing their bosses. They really enjoy their work, for quite naturally, they bothare secretaries for their hus- bands, I heard acommotionand turnedto see Bud Bensonand Claude McDaniel heatedly discussing the automobile industry, Bud, a brilliant automotive engineer, re-con- structed the Kaiser automobile and put it back on the market. Claude is president of General Motors Corporation, ; Peggy Mayhew and Ihad a wonderful time discussing our different jobs as nurses. She is head nurse at Davis Hospital. I talked to Mary Jo and Jerry Waller and found that they are enjoying furnishing the new home t hey just built. They own and operatea large restaurantin Salisbury. I found former-secretary-now-turned-housewife Georgia Faye Kluttz laughing and talking with Libby Harkey over old times. Libby is secretary for the very rich and prominent lawyer, Jack White. Jim Coulter showed me a picture of himselfin his office giving dictation to his efficient secretary Louise Hall. Heis now owner of the prosperous Bailey Farm in Woodleaf, Air Force Sergeant Marie Waller told me all about going to Paris on her last leave. Ruby Campbelland Betty Myers, whoare happy housewives, showed me pictures of their families and told how glad they were when the kids left for school on the first day. I turned from talking to Claude Gullett, a Navy recruiter, to run to the window with everyone else. We saw a huge Cadillac stop outside and a big man get out. He had a Stetson on his head and a cigar in his mouth. He came in making apologies for being late; he turned out to be rich bachelor rancher--William Eagle. Only a short while later the party was overand I had to rush to catch my plane back to Washington, but I still think of that night and wish I could see each one of my friends again, Prophetess: Nava Shaver 14
