Although very often we were faced With temptation and some strife. Sometimes the way's been hard, But we've still had lots of fun. Many things we've accomplished, And a prize we have won, This is our life, But not ours alone. For the lives others live Will reflect from our own. So to those who are left These words we would say: Make and live a life To be proud of some day. Pauline Myers Poet 10 CLASS MOTTO Not for ourselves but for all. ! Mary Ann Robbins OFFICERS MASCOTS Livengood Paula Shaver CLASS PROPHECY The year is 1965 and I can hardly believe all my good fortune. During my off- duty hours asan F., B, I, nursein Washington, D. C.,I worked in my private labora- tory and finally produced a panacea for growing old. For my noble deed I was made guest of honor onthe television program ''This Is Your Life'', The other guests were my classmates from the graduating class of 1958, First of alllsought out BettySwaim and Pauline Myers who weremy assistants during my laboratory experiments. Betty is a medical librarian and Pauline also is a nursefor the F. B. 1. While we were talking, Bobby Snider joined us and thanked us again for helping to pull him through after the last accident he had as a hell driver. I spied Darlene Penninger and Jacqueline Hege and went over to talk with them. They both are housewives and school teachers living and teaching at Norfolk Naval Base. Mary Ann Robbins joined us with her darling little twin girls, She had just returned from Hawaii where her Air Force Sergeant husband was stationed. NextI met Bill Abernethy, a big business executive in Chicago, and Harry Ward, a Chevrolet dealer in Salisbury. I found out that Harry's biggest sales are coming this year from cars painted that same shade of blue as his ''blue goose . Willie Leatherman, a school teacher at our alma mater, was trying to bribe Joyce Cartner into getting Elvis Presley's autograph so she could show it to her history students back home. Joyce is Elvis's motorcycle shiner. Mary Ann Jones and Peggy Miller were right at home that night. Mary Ann is a beautician at the ''Sleeping Beauty , one of the largest beauty salons in Hollywood. Peggy, the famous gossip columnist, gave me the low-downon the latest Hollywood romances. I overheard Della Ann Snider and Jeanne Safrit discussing their bosses. They really enjoy their work, for quite naturally, they bothare secretaries for their hus- bands, I heard acommotionand turnedto see Bud Bensonand Claude McDaniel heatedly discussing the automobile industry, Bud, a brilliant automotive engineer, re-con- structed the Kaiser automobile and put it back on the market. Claude is president of General Motors Corporation, ; Peggy Mayhew and Ihad a wonderful time discussing our different jobs as nurses. She is head nurse at Davis Hospital. I talked to Mary Jo and Jerry Waller and found that they are enjoying furnishing the new home t hey just built. They own and operatea large restaurantin Salisbury. I found former-secretary-now-turned-housewife Georgia Faye Kluttz laughing and talking with Libby Harkey over old times. Libby is secretary for the very rich and prominent lawyer, Jack White. Jim Coulter showed me a picture of himselfin his office giving dictation to his efficient secretary Louise Hall. Heis now owner of the prosperous Bailey Farm in Woodleaf, Air Force Sergeant Marie Waller told me all about going to Paris on her last leave. Ruby Campbelland Betty Myers, whoare happy housewives, showed me pictures of their families and told how glad they were when the kids left for school on the first day. I turned from talking to Claude Gullett, a Navy recruiter, to run to the window with everyone else. We saw a huge Cadillac stop outside and a big man get out. He had a Stetson on his head and a cigar in his mouth. He came in making apologies for being late; he turned out to be rich bachelor rancher--William Eagle. Only a short while later the party was overand I had to rush to catch my plane back to Washington, but I still think of that night and wish I could see each one of my friends again, Prophetess: Nava Shaver 14 1. After two years of hard workand play, thirty-three ofus re- ceived the reward of beingJuniors, During the year Betty Swaim joined our class. Our class officers were JeanSafrit, President, Darlene Penninger, Vice-President; Della Ann Snider, Secretary; Faye Kluttz, Treasurer; and Mary Ann Robbins, Reporter, During the yeara Tri-Hi-Y Clubwas formed with Miss Pansy Hopkins as advisor, Starting the year off with more school spirit, we passed our goalof five-hundred dollars through our magazine drive, Giv- ing the Junior-Senior Banquet and the Jun ior Play, ''Scootin' Grand- ma!'' were outstanding events all of us will remember. Our boys'! Basketball team was Runner-Upinthe tournament, Our team also won the Sportsmanship Trophy, and our coach, Mr. Cansler, was named Coach of the Year. Weenjoyedthis year very much under the guidance of Miss Pansy Hopkins, At last, we reached the last phase of our high school life. Thirty of our original class became dignified Seniors. We were fortunate to have Mrs. David Chambers as ouradvisor, Our class officers were Charles Benson, President; Bill Abernethy, Vice- President; Peggy Miller, Secretary; Jacqueline Hege, Treasurer; and Mary Ann Robbins, Reporter. During the year we settled down to a new schedule, nostudy halland five periods, Theevents dur- ing the year were the Halloween Carnival, receiving our class rings, producing the Senior Play, ''Backwoods Romeo , Junior- Senior Banquet and planning and preparing the ''ACORN ! and the ISA As we near graduation, we look back over the eleven years and realize that we have attained the goal which then seemed so far away. Witha sense of achievement and with many happy memo- ries, we carry withus the resolve toseeknew goals by always ful- filling our Senior Motto, ''Not for ourselvés, but for others. Historian Mary Ann Robbins 20 21 STATS TiGS7 © Rao GCleAs After collecting facts and figures I have uncovered the following data concerning the '58 Senior Class of Woodleaf High School, There are 20 girls and 10 boys making up a class of 30 Seniors, 70 per cent of which are topped with brownhair, 13 per cent withblond hair, the remaining 17 per cent with black and red hair. Upon observation I find that 43 per cent of the class has blue eyes, 30 per-cent brown éyes, 20 per cent hazelveyes and 7 per cent green eyes. I find that the average height of the boys is 6 feet, while the girls average heightis 5feet, 4inches, Statistics show that the average weight of the boys is,171 pounds, and 114 pounds the average weight of the girls. The average shoe size for the boys is size 10 and the girls, size 6 1 2. The favorite pastime is dating and listening to the radio. Movies is the most popular place to go on dates, The favorite movies are ''Lov- ing You , 'Giant'', and ''The Eddie Duchin Story , baseball the sport; and ''Music With Mason'! the favorite radio program, I find the best liked sportsman is Mickey Mantle of the New York Yankees while the best liked movie stars are Rock Hudson, and Kim Novak, As for food and drink, the '58 Seniors prefer hamburgers and pepsi cola, Mr. Bill Cansler is the High School teacher chosen as the best liked by the '58 Seniors. Mountains and beaches are the favorite vacation spots. The preferred vocalist is Pat Boone by 50 per cent of the class. Elvis Presley came in second with 13 per cent, The majority of the class prefers the Chevrolet car; the Ford came in second place, It seems that 67 per cent of the class is in love and plan to marry soon with the exception of 3 who aremarried. Thirty-three per cent of the class is not in love, _ Statistics show that the majority of the classis Methodist and Bap- tist, The Republicans have a slight lead over the Democrats.
