Mildred Foster Historian Class History In nineteen hundred and fifty, forty-one freshmen boarded the W. H. S. Airliner fora four year flight through the classrooms and halls of Woodleaf High. Through the careful guidance and leadership of Mr. James Barringer, our pilot, we completed the first year of our flight. ‘‘All aboard, all aboard,’’ called our new pilot, Mr. James Wilhelm, as thirty-six passengers climbed into the plane and took their seats for the nineteen fifty-one Sopho- more ‘‘take off.’’ Before we realized it the plane was descending again, this time at the Junior Airport where two students discontinued their flight, leaving an enrollment of thirty-four. Before we left the ground another passenger was noticed, and the pilot waited until Miss Jeanette Current, our adviser, boarded the plane. During our Junior travel we experienced many thrilling adventures; among them were our Junior Play and the Junior-Senior Banquet. But soon May rolled around and once again the W. H. S. Airliner brought thirty-four Juniors to a safe landing. Thus, for three years we had flown through our Freshmen, Sophomore and Junior years. We could hardly believe that now we were climbing into the dear old W. H. S. for the last time. Thirty of our original group and one new student brought our crew to thirty-one. Assisting the pilot were: President, Leroy Burgess; Vice-President, Patricia Benson; Secretary, Jerlean Snider; Treasurer, Jackie Barbee; and Sponsor, Mrs. David Chambers. Receiving our class rings, presenting the Senior Play, attending the Junior-Senior Banquet and the Carolina-Tennessee Football Game at Chapel Hill were some of the high- lights enjoyed. We are very grateful to our parents, teachers and principal for their inspiring help and guidance. We will sincerely strive to ‘‘Make our lives a Challenge and not a Compro- mise.”’ Historian, Mildred Foster
