We are sure that you will enjoy the informality of the format and the increased use of color. The large size book is in keeping with modern ideas which we hope will be pleasing to you. The purpose of the yearbook is to show the life of the students. Look at it now, and relive in the years to come your school days at Wood- lawn. Sincerely, LIBBY RYE - Editor SHEILA HALL - Asst. UOR£ Much is required of a high school principal; obviously a special kind of person is needed for the task. He must be able to compress days into hours and hours into minutes; such a man is Mr. Moree. As principal of Woodlawn High School he is many things--a scholar, a leader--and more. He is the organizational center of the school, the man around whom all decisions are made, all problems resolved . His activities are not limited to official duties, but civic projects and community af- fairs also claim his time. His hobbies include golf and fishing. Much of his time is also de- voted to his wife and four children. Mr. Moree received his bachelor ' s degree from Samford University, and his master ' s de- gree from the University of Alabama. Always on the move, he keeps Woodlawn on the move. 22 i ' Relaxing on the golf course Giving a helping hand to daughter, Nancy Mr. and Mrs. Moree In his home 23 MRS. Woodlawn took two games from West End dur- ing the season. rJT ' l. m gj l J n In the 16th game of the season, Woodlawn cagers faced a formidable Jefferson County team, the Huskies of Hewitt -Tnissville .High School. Stout defense was the key to the Colonel victory as they hammered the Huskies to a 63 to 40 score. ABOVE: Doctorchik hammers one in for the Colonels, while at left Doyle G. and Doyle A. threaten a ' pass. 131 ATHLEFOR TWE In seven meetings the Ensley Yellow Jackets had beaten Woodlawn six times, so it was no surprise that the aim and am- bition of a dozen Colonels was to take the string of victory away from Ensley. This they did in their last meeting of the season, in the presence of a packed Ensley gym. Although a first quarter score showed Woodlawn ahead by 11 to 7, the Smith (43) shown being fouled by Ensley ' s House, scored 19 of Woodlawn ' s 50 points. 132 COLONELS NU WBEIS t half ended with the score in Ensley ' s favor 19-17. The second half was Woodlawn ' s, though, with a bulge of 33 points, to edge Ensley from sweet vic- tory with a 50-41 score when the final buzzer sounded. The victory put Woodlawn ' s county - best record at 20-5, its final city record mark at 11-1 to be- come the city cham- pions for the 1967-68 basketball season. Mike Parker, (31) determined to keep Ensley from getting possession, scored 16 poinu in this championship game. 133 CCBNBQ OP lUB The supporting spirit of our cheerleaders was never lacking all through the season. Fitting time. Victorious Colonels offer best wishes to defeated Rams. Half-time was always a time for conference . . . and con- gratulations. 134 ixf .. v 1= 1. A. of Wocxllawn High School is a strong community organization, supporting the teachers and students in maintaining the high standards this school has always had. This year much progress has been made in improving the looks and conditions of the grounds and build- ing. Visible results were seen in helping to arrange the remodeled school library, redeco- rating a teacher lounge, and in a teacher-appre- ciation Christmas tea. With the aid of garden clubs and other organizations, the P. T. A. has made great strides in improvement of the Wood- lawn landscape.
