WOODLOG 1 9 Judy Ann Bailey .... Editor-In-Chief Judy Ann Binkley . . . Assistant Editor Miss A. K. Looney...............Sponsor DEDICATION Each year the senior class votes for and dedicates its yearbook to a teacher who has won a place of esteem and affection in their hearts. This year Miss Ford was selected because of her patience, wisdom, untiring service, cheerfulness, cooperation, and devotion to her students. To Miss Ford we have brought our problems, and we will be ever grateful for her advice. Her devotion to the younger generation has been her contribution to make a better Woodlawn, and so, a better World. Miss Ford, because of your efforts to keep us on our course we, the 1964 senior class, gratefully dedicate our yearbook to you. “Our Country, to be cherished in all our hearts, to be defended by all our hands ” Robert Winthrop Breathes there the man with soul so dead, Who never to himself hath said, This is my own my native land! Whose heart hath ne'er within him burn'd As home his footsteps he hath turn'd From wandering on a foreign strand. Sir Walter Scott In aid of a sound government, our school fosters patriotism. It inspires a love of our country that leads us to take an active part in promoting the security and general welfare of our country. This is shown as our Woodlawn R.O.T.C. raises the flag another day in our free and democratic country. FOREWORD Our lives, like the fashions and styles of today, are in a state of constant change. Looking back over our four years in high school, we can recall many momentous changes in our lives each year: our teachers, our school, our interest, our activities, our attitudes - all have changed. We also have learned values that do not change over the years - knowledge, morals, and deep friendships. We, the WOODLOG STAFF, have tried to record a part of our memories at Woodlawn High School. In the adult years ahead as we lookback to 1963 and 1964 for a pleasant memory or two, this book will release its captured dreams and it will fulfill its purpose. TABLE OF CONTENTS TABLE OF CONTENTS Faculty.............................................. 9 Classes..............................................21 Organizations.......................................141 Features ......................................... 183 Honors ............................................... Athletics ..........................................203 OUR PRINCIPAL, MR. RALPH MARTIN OUR FRIEND AND LEADER Mr. Martin's high ideals inspire us to aim for greater goals. His guidance and understanding are often important factors in building the character of his students. Knowledge and understanding are the primary requisites for leadership. Mr. Martin understands Wood-lawn. His knowledge of Woodlawn has enabled him to give equal consideration to all departments and to provide leadership necessary for the betterment of our school. Mr. Martin is a friend of both student and faculty. He is often seen walking down the hail, stopping now and then for a friendly chat with a student or a teacher. If there is a serious illness or death in the family of one of the students. Mr. Martin finds time to stop by for a visit to offer his help. Put God first, others second, and yourself last. Many will remember for the years to come these words from Mr. Martin's inspiring speeches in auditorium. With his words of encouragement and understanding, many of us are inspired to aim for greater goals; and by his example of high principles and ideals, we strive to grow in character. 11 FACULTY 1964 Mrs. Laura Franklin Financial Secretary Mrs. Elsie Campbell Registrar Mrs. Vashti Simmons Assistant Registrar Mr. William H.
