At the beginning of his fifth semester in Woodlawn he was appointed page to Congressman Laurie Battle and left for Washington immediately. After a year he returned to Woodlawn for his seventh semester’s work but went back to Washington at the beginning of the spring semester this year. His school day at the Page School begins at six in the morning and continues for about three hours, and then his duties as page begin. Part of the time Stewart took some night classes. He has made an excellent record in Washington as well as at Wood-lawn High School. HILDEGARD HEILMANN Hildegard has become one of us at Woodlawn this year, although her home is in Berlin, Germany. Through the American Field Service, a private organization, she was selected as one of the German students to be given a year’s study in high schools of the United States. Among the qualifications required for appointment were character, scholarship, and leadership. We are glad that W'oodlawn High School was among the schools to receive one of these students and that Hildegard was the student assigned to Woodlawn High School. U was a good season despite the won-lost record. They were one of the leading teams in the state and won s bid to the Crippled Children's Clinic Game. Although the Colonels bed no individual stars, they were helped along on their winning ways by Clay Jolly, Charles Malcolm, Dickie Steber. Capt. Reginald Betbea, and Doug Garrett, all of whom made All-City. Malcolm, Steber and Jolly placed 00 tbe All-State team. The Colonels used effectively the experience they gained last season. Along with this was a will to win, which helped them out of tight spots. WOODLAWN 20 RAMSAY IS Woodlawn had aweet revenge in overpowering the Rams. The Colooels showed ability to score, making up twenty points in tbeir first game of the season. Ramsay scored first when Tharee ran 33 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter. Woodlawn singed back driving 70 yards for a score, tying the game. After beautiful running by Robert Hobbs, Malcolm carried the ball over from the 1 yard line. Woodlawn scored again.
