She began a instructor in Spanish and session room teacher of Room 5 (the present Room 3). For two years she worked, helping to get the new high school under way; then she felt the urge to travel. She sailed for Europe, and spent a year studying in France and Spain. In the fall of 1926 she returned to Woodlawn High School. It was at thin time that the became interested in the marshals and was appointed assistant faculty ad visor of the new marshal force. Soon after, she wa» chief marshal sponsor and worked tire le s!y in that capacity for the neat dozen year . When no longer marshal sponsor, she assisted with the organization until the past year. It ha been through her zeal and inspiration that the marshal force hat developed into the splendid organization that it is today. In 1927, upon the death of Mr. Reams, Head of the Language Department, Mis Steadham was appointed to fill the vacancy. The teacher under her have found her most cooperative and thoughtful of their welfare. In order to make their work lighter she ha often taken over dutie that as Head of the Department the might have delegated to others. Her pupils have been given, along with the study of the French and Spanish languages, a knowledge of the countries where these languages are spoken and an appreciation of the people and their custom . Stories of her travels in foreign land have helped to enrich the courses she ha taught. In addition to her regular class work, her marshal work, and her duties a Head of the Department. Miss Steadham, during the principalship of Mr. Bandman, was Home Visitor, her duties corresponding somewhat to those of Girls Advisor today. This work entailed visit to the homes of pupils and required time outside of school hours. Miss Steadham has been Faculty Representative of the P.-T. A. She has been instrumen- tal in having teacher membership in the P.-T. A. one hundred per cent. Miss Steadham has not been too busy to he friendly at all time with teacher and pupils. She ha always had time for little chats in the hall ; she has had time for such thoughtful act a taking two new girls out to their home in Roebuck when they had missed connections with a schoolmate that was to how them how to get home. She has had time to help her pupils entertain, in her home, French cadets on visits to Birmingham. There are countless other thoughtful thing she has done for people. Nobody can work forever as hard a Miss Steadham has worked; therefore, she has decided that at the end of thi semester she i leaving the teaching profession to retire.
