Next around our banquet table is our tallest member, John Riddle, who is now a promi- nent fruit-growing expert in Southern Illinois. He invites us all to visit his expansive orchard tomorrow and he says he'll treat us all to peaches. He isn't referring to his wife. CThat's his pet nickname for her.j She used to be Katherine Kurtz. Now, let's go in imagination to a large metropolis, the burglar alarm soundsg instantly, like a flash, something dashes by. The crime is solved. Sherlock Sherman has added another victory to his long list of fights against crime. Yes, it's Floyd, and don't look so modest, Floyd. We think you're wonderful. Next is Esther Owens-Knox, who owns and personally directs the most exclusive fash- ion salon in New York City. She is a world-famous style authority known as Lady Esther. Her husband, Gleason, teaches boxing in his own private school. His twin boys, Russell and Muscle, are his most apt pupils. Here's the biggest surprise of the evening. Meet Rev. Billie Owens, Pastor of the Evan- gelical Church in Los Angeles. Congratulations, to you, Billie, on the marvelous success you have had in your profession. And here's that stately blonde whom we used to know as Wilma Hoeinghaus. Well, she has shortened her name to House and she is secretary for her hsuband, Gene, who owns a large ranch in Utah. , Here's Faye Hogshead, who is just as demure and blonde as she was in 1946. Hers is the perfect marriage , she says, and she lives in a veritable paradise with her husband. They are joint owners of a doll shop in Chicago. The model which her husband most admires is a Dresden figurine of Faye, a miniature of which he is wearing on his lapel. Next, I wish I could describe the beauty for you of a mansion in Wyoming. Back of the mansion are hills and hills of moving white things-goats, the finest goats in the world, and they all belong to Donald Loyd. Louis Phelps, one of our most versatile athletes, is now known as Uncle Dick to his juvenile radio audience. You may hear him telling bedtime stories over WGN every evening at 9:15. Violet Jones teaches physical culture by correspondence. Her fame as a strong wo- man is widely known. In her most recent publicity stunt, she lifted the rear end of a street car and put it back on the track. Ann Fantz has gained fame in the professional world as a singer with Gene Braddy's orchestra. Incidentally, Gene was chosen King of Swing in 1955. Wilma Flanagan, who has become an expert in home economics, has her own radio pro- gram daily over WMAQ, but she also finds time to make a home for LeRoy and the two little Downes, Terry Lee and Jerry Roy. As a closing note we must remind you not to take your apparent success or failure too seriously because we cannot guarantee our infallibility. We would ordinarily assure you that we are absolutely correct, but since our late quarrel with Hecate, the Goddess of Witchcraft, our soothsaylng has not been up to its usual standard. Page 11

61444 Pfwpfwlw Here we are at the tenth class reunion of the Class of '46. It is June, 1956, and as the members are greeting each other, a Western Union boy enters bearing a telegram for Margaret Halpain. An expectant hush comes over the group as she nervously tears it open. After read- ing it she explains that it is from Marilyn Copple, the class president, who will be unable to attend because she can not leave her husband, Jake Germann. He received a serious headin- jury while diving shortly before they were scheduled to leave for the reunion. He is her special patient in the White Hospital in New York where she is head nurse. As you have all read before now, Jake is the National Swim Champ. Margaret, as blonde and beautiful as ever, gracefully takes her place at the head of the table as toastmistress in Marilyn's place. The setting, too, is familiar, because LaRue is beside her. She polses for a moment before addressing the group, and just as she opens her mouth to speak, her little three-year-old son, Roger Lee, picks a bun from his plate and hits LaRue on the nose with it, and then squeals proudly, Oh, Daddy, I made a basket. LaRue gleams with pride as much as to say, He'll be a basketball champ, too, but Margaret blushes painfully and hurrles to introduce Ervin Schultz, the first class member to tell of his experiences in the last ten years. Ervin rises, and it is easy to see from the grin on his face that he is thoroughly enjoy- ing Margaret's discomflture over the bun-throwing episode of her son. M-m-m, but it is good to hear that deep bass voice of Ervinls again as he says, You know, I used to want to be a sec- ond Bing Crosby, but the fear of becoming fat and also the father of four sons discouraged me in that, so I am now a transport truck driver, and I really enjoy it. Trucks are not as tempera- mental as wives. The chair next to Ervin's is vacant and Margaret explains that it was set for Edith Cundiff, who is now attending the Hair-Dressers' Ball in Gay Paree. She owns and operates a chain of beauty salons which are known as My Lady Beautiful shops. The slogan displayed in all her shops is, If you would have all men at your feet, let Edith take care of your head. Margaret next introduces the portly and slightly bald New York broker as Warren Peoples and his gorgeous red-headed wife as Jessie Orrill. Surely such glamour as Jessie's is positive insurance against any romance of her husband with his secretary. Margaret continues, Now, Classmates, before I introduce the next couple, I wish you would try to visualize a radio station, for the owner of it is Charles Robinson, and the pretty brown-eyed girl sitting with him is Loretta. Immediately everyone begins to applaud and shout, Sing, Charles, sing. Charles, who is as obliging as ever, says, I will sing, 'Me and My Shadow' and I wish to dedicate it to Loretta and me. When his number is finished, Margaret says, Thanks, Charles, and I also wish to add that Loretta has received an offer from the MGM Studios to play the lead in 'My Angel' opposite Van Johnson, but she has not yet accepted, as Charles stubbornly opposes it. Next I present the smallest girl in our class, Evelyn Martin. Her girlish figure is well- preserved and why not? She lives in luxury in sunny Florida as the wife of a fruit tree in- spector. She was promoted from the boss's secretary to the Boss's Wife in one short year. Her secretarial course really paid off. Page 10
