A PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE It is with a great deal of pleasure that I am asked to write a message for this year's edition of the Echo, I take this opportunity to express the ap- preciation of the entire school for the work of the annual staff, composed of seniors and our sponsor, Mrs. Grace Craig, in producing an- other fine yearbook. In addition to giving us an immediate review of our school activities for 1963-64, this yearbook will bring each of us pleasure in future years. As a graphic rec- ord of our school life, it will serve on and on to refresh treasured memories of times past. The success of our yearbook, along with all other school activities, is dependent upon the cooperation of the students, faculty, and parents. AUCOIN, English, History, Speech Mrs. Aucoin, in her free time, enjoys collecting quotations, poems, and other interesting scrapebook material for speech and church work. Her hobby however, is making personalized Christmas cards. She holds a B.S. degree and has had background work in speech, English, and social studies. MR. ROBERT BARRETT, Physicial Education, Coach This is Mr. Barrett's seventh year at Woodlawn. His favorite pastimes include participating in family activities and hunting. Coaching is the phase of his work he likes best. MR. DOUGLAS BECK, Social Studies Mr. Beck enjoys golf and all sports. After a year at Woodlawn, he feels that our school excells in its atmosphere of co-operation and- harmonious re- lationship, MR. LEO T. BOSSIER, Mathematics, Head Coach During his spare time, Coach Bossier enjoys hunting and watching sports events on television. He appreciates most, the school spirit and loyalty to athletic teams at Woodlawn. Coach Bossier holds a B.A. and an M.Ed. degree. MRS. EDWINA B. BROWN, English Mrs. Brown, who has taught at Woodlawn for ll years, enjoys gardening and reading. Besides Lady, a nine year old Toy Manchester, she owns twelve prize Beagles. Mrs. Brown received her B. A. degree from L, S. U. MRS. FAYE BRYDELS, Home Economics Mrs. Brydels holds a B. S. degree in Home Economics. JET DURANT, Second Grade Mrs. Durant's favorite expression is All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, Her pets, Max and Torchie, are black and tan Dachshunds. Mrs. Durant holds a B. S. degree from L.S. U. MRS. FREDRICA J. DYKES, English Mrs. Dykes received her B. S. degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. In her first year at Woodlawn, she finds it very hard not to make pets of her students. She enjoys playing bridge, reading, and collecting classi- cal records. MRS. GRACE CPJXIG, Library Science Mrs. Craig's favorite expression is Two can keep a secret if one of them is dead. She enjoys working with young people, and is the sponsor of The Echo. Mrs. Craig received her B. A. degree from Southwestern Louisiana and Library Science from L. S. U. MR. RICHARD DUHON, English and History Mr. Duhon, now in his first year at Woodlawn, finds all who are connect- ed with our school to be friendly and co-operative. His favorite outside activ- ities are fishing and athletics. Mr. Duhon received his B.A. degree from Mc- Neese State College. MRS. STELLA EDWARDS, Second Grade Mrs. Edwards received her B. S. degree from L. S. U. in 1942. Among her pastimes are sewing and reading. She has five children, Charles, Lynn, Danny Susan, and Pat. MRS. BLANCHE N. FUGLAAR, History, English Mrs. Fuglaar 's favorite quotation is What you do speaks so loudly, people can't hear what you say. Sewing is her favorite pastime. She received her B. HEARD, History, English Mrs. Heard likes Woodlawn most for the peaceful atmosphere and the hap- py spirit of it's student body. Reading and gardening are her favorite pastimes. She received her M. E. degree from L. S. U. MR. HARRY L. HENSON, Biology Mr. Henson believes that the congeniality of the student body and faculty is Woodlawn's greatest asset. His favorite outside activities are hunting and bowling. Mr. Henson received a B.S. degree from Southeastern Louisiana College, and an M.Ed. from L.S.U. MISS JANET LANE, Third Grade Miss Lane believes that the friendliness of the students and faculty makes Woodlawn an exceptionally good place to work and study. In her free time she likes to swim and travel. She holds a B.S. degree from L.S.U. MRS, C. R, MCLELLAN, English, French, Social Studies Mrs. McLellan holds a B. A. degree from Louisiana College. Her free time is usually spent in sewing, knitting, or reading. The size and location of Woodlawn appeal to her most. .i .a 90 ' G MR. NORRIS HAMMONDS, Physics, General Science Mr. Hammonds, three years a teacher at Woodlawn, holds two B. S. de- grees, one from Murray State College and another from the University of Wis- consin. He also received an M.Ed. from L. S. U. Golf occupies much of his spare time. MR. TUCKER HATHORN, Mathematics, Chemistry This is Mr. Hathron 's first year at Woodlawn. Besides being sponsor of the Junior Class, he is helping to direct the Panther Playhouse productions. His pastimes are piano, bridge, and chess. Mr. Hathorn holds a B. S. degree from Mississippi Southern College. MRS. IRMA JOHNSON, Civics, Geography As a graduate of the old Seventh Ward School and as a teacher here for many years, Mrs. Johnson has enjoyed watching and taking part in Woodlawn 's rapid advancement. Her hobbies are music and reading. She received her B.A. degree from L. S. U. in 1936. MRS. CAMMIE KELLEHER, Sixth Grade Mrs. Kelleher has been teaching at Woodlawn for eight years. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, cooking, working in the yard, and reading. She received her B. S. degree from L. S. U. 8 MRS. EVA LOIS MASHON, Business Education Mrs. Mashon received her B.S. degree from L.S. U. where she is now work- ing on her Master 's of Education. She enjoys the closeness of the faculty and gil, the nice school plant that we are lucky to have. Sports of all kinds and read- ing are her favorite forms of entertainment. MRS. ANITA NORMAN, Third Grade Mrs. Norman's favorite expression is Look on the bright side. In her free hours she finds pleasure in swimming and-dancing. Her educational back- ground includes a B.S. and an M.Ed. MISS COLEEN PARENT, Physical Education, English Miss Parent's favorite free-time activities are dancing, listening to stero recordings and playing tennis. The friendliness of the faculty is to her Wood- 1awn's chief asset. B.S. degree. MISS MARGARET LEE PHILBROOK, Third and Fourth Grade Miss Philbrook received her B.S. degree from L.S. U. Her favorite expres- sion is Hai dozo, which means Yes, please in Japanese. In her spare time she enjoys playing bridge. MRS. BARBARA B. PURDY, Physical Ed., Bookkeeping Although Mrs. Purdy's two daughters occupy much of her free time, she finds occasion to sew and play the piano. She received her B.S. degree from L. S. U. MRS. KATHRYN MELKER, Sixth Grade Mrs. Melker calls Woodlawn her second home, Reading and music are her favorite free-time activities. She received her B. S. degree from L.S. U. MR. JAMES R, MILLER, Band Director Mr. Miller has been the Band Director at Woodlawn for seven years. His favorite free-time activity is playing jazz, and he has a special interest in the Baton Rouge Symphony. He received his B.M. E. from L.S.U. MRS. JANICE PARIS, Mathematics, Science Mrs. Paris 's favorite quotation is Anything worth doing is worth doing well. In her spare time, she finds pleasure in reading and playing bridge. Mrs. Paris received her B. S. degree from Mississippi State College for Women. MRS. T. W. PARISH, Fourth Grade Mrs. Parish, who holds a B.A. degree in education, feels that her class this year is the best she has ever taught. Besides her grandaughter, she has made pets of a dog, a cat, a parakeet, and a duck. Mrs. Parish maintains that working conditions at Woodlawn are superior. MRS. ELEANOR T. ROBIN, Fourth Grade Mrs. Robin enjoys all sorts of sports, traveling and raising collie dogs and cattle. She has one son, Robbie, and two nephews. Mrs. Robin attended U. S.
