DEDICATION Jewell Woodrow Mooney has taught Vocational Agriculture at Woodland High School for twenty-six years. Mr. Mooney graduated from the University of Missouri in June 1955, with a B.S. degree and a major in Vocational Agriculture and in 1961 he completed his M.A. degree. Mr. Mooney never went to high school. Upon being discharged from the Army after the Korean War, he took his G.E.D. test, passed it and then entered the University. One statement he mentioned while taking chemistry at the University was, If I can pass this chemistry I can do anything in life. While he was in the Army he was given an aptitude test and was told that his main in- terest seemed to lie in music, but that he could achieve just about anything he wanted to do. Having lived on a farm all of his life he decided he would like to teach Vocational Agriculture. He has enjoyed many wonderful years at Woodland High School and has seen many fine young men and women grow up and become good citizens in the community. He has three former students who have become Vocational Agriculture Instructors and many of his students are now occupied in Agri-business in this community and many others. In 1970 he was made an Honorary State FFA Farmer and in 1977 he received the Distinguished Service Award from Missouri Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association. 3

STAFF MESSAGE We, the 1980-81 Journalism Staff are proud to present to you the completed version of our efforts — the 1981 Cardinal. This year there were changes in the format of the class. In years past the class has been voluntary and no credit has been given. This year the class was offered as lournalism with one hour credit. To also help change things we acquired a new teacher, Mrs. Alice Ireland. In addition to creating this yearbook we also had classroom work, and published a monthly newspaper titled the Cardinal Flyer. Perhaps the thought of our grade made us work harder. We learned to work on a deadline, under pressure, and how to work together as a class. In the beginning, planning, design, layout, photography, and other aspects held lit- tle meaning for us until we got into the actual preparation and production of the copy for this book. Little did we realize that so many details needed such meticulous attention. We learned to take responsibility upon ourselves. Every member of the staff has learned to work with you, the students and faculty, because it isn't only the staff that makes the yearbook. Without you we wouldn't have anything to put in the yearbook. The future is uncertain for all of us, but what we will have for tomorrow are our memories of today. We hope this issue of the Cardinal will hold special memories for every one of you - especially the Senior Class of 1981 - and that it will become more cherished in years to come. With hopes of reaching our goal, which is your approval, we give to you the fruits of our efforts. We hope you enjoy it. — 1980-81 lournalism Staff 4
