Dear Students. In the years to follow may you all look back to this edition of the CARDINAL and reminisce those cherished moments which all of us. especially Seniors of 1973. enjoyed during this school year. 1 would personally like to extend my thanks to the members of the staff and anyone else, es- pecially Mr. Cooper, who has helped me in any way the past year. It has been hours of hard work, however none of us would have missed the opportunities this experience has afforded us. La Wanda Francis DEDICATION. . . TO OUR FRIEND WILLIAM ROBBINS Smelly halls . . . smellier frogs . . . snakes . . . and worms, dirty glassware, informal laboratory work along with classroom lecture and an abundance of patience are just a few phrases for describing the science department, which has brought recognition of outstanding achievement to WHS. Without the aid of one person, Mr. William Robbins, none of this would be possible. As a teacher he has helped to mold a new generation, giving them answers and reasons for believing. From his desire to help his students learn he has instilled within them the desire to want to learn. He is a friend to all, preparing us for the future. ADMINISTRATION Tenderly now let all men turn to the earth Nancy Newhall FROM THE DESK OF RANDEL BLANKENSHIP SUPERINTENDENT The structuring of American educa- tion to meet the demands of the future involves improving what exists and crea- ting new organizations and methods. In planning for future education, we must put emphasis on what the educational system should be able to do for the learner. The educational system must empha- size the development of learning skills. It is a characteristic of our time that rapid change will prevent schools being able to transmit all necessary learning. It is becoming less and less likely that the learning one goes through at one stage of his life will be completely adequate for a later stage. For this reason, the individual must have the necessary learning skills available when he encounters learning situations throughout his lifetime. Among the skills a citizen of the future must possess are: Sufficient familiarity with the learn- ing process to teach himself, the ability to do reflective thinking, research skills, and the ability to adapt to swift change.
