It has been hours of hard work - not only during school hours but often on our own time. In looking back, however, none of us would have missed the opportunities this experience has afforded us. We sincerely hope that this issue will hold special memories for each and ever)' Woodland student, and that as each year passes it will become a more cherished momento. It will be extra special to the graduates of 1972, for it will be the last link with high school life. A sincere thank-you goes to everyone who helped us in any way, for it is not the yearbook staff that makes the yearbook, but rather the students and faculty of Woodland. If the 1972 Cardinal gives even one smile to each of you, then our labors will have been worth the while, and we will leave in your care what has been ours for the past year. 5 In deep appreciation for his giving so freely of his time, his energy, and his knowled ge, we, the 1972 Cardinal Yearbook Staff, have unanimously decided to dedicate the 1972 edition of the Cardinal to our sponsor, our advisor, and our friend, Gary N. Cooper. 6 ADMINISTRATION Randel Blankenship, SUPERINTENDENT The structuring of American education to meet the demands of the future involves improving what exists and creating new organizations and methods. In planning for future education, we must put em- phasis on what the educational system should be able to do for the learner. The educational system must emphasize the de- velopment of learning skills. It is a characteristic of our time that rapid change will prevent schools being able to transmit all necessary learning. It is becoming less and less likely that the learning one goes through at one stage of his life will be completely adequate for a later stage. For this reason, the in- dividual must have the necessary learning skills available when he encounters learning situations throughout his lifetime. Among the skills a citizen of the future must possess are: Sufficient familiarity with the learning process to teach himself, the ability to do reflective thinking, research skills, and the ability to adopt to swift change. 8 LUCILLE CONRAD, Sec.
